New Version of Dialog Profound® Now Available

Global Market Intelligence Service, With Options To Buy Individual Sections of Reports, Now Features Advanced Taxonomy, Functionality & Cost-Recovery Tool

CARY, N.C., USA (April 16, 2004) - Dialog, a Thomson (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, said today that a new version of its Dialog Profound(r) service is now available for subscribers worldwide.

The new Dialog Profound was released last month when Dialog began utilizing a new technology platform, on which Dialog Profound and Dialog(r) NewsRoom, another Dialog service, are now operating. New versions of three other Dialog business information, news and market research services - Dialog Intelliscope (sm), Dialog Company Profiles and Dialog NewsEdge(r) - will be launched on the platform later this year.

"Dialog Profound is a complete research source for market intelligence from around the world," said Cynthia Murphy, Dialog senior vice president, strategic marketing. "The robust new technology enables us to offer Dialog Profound users more power to target and retrieve relevant market research reports and other content, along with better control of research expenses."

Unlike other online market research services, sections of marketing research reports may be purchased individually, creating low-cost, high-value solutions for market research information. Users avoid the need to pay for an entire report, which might be lengthy and contain detailed information not necessary for a particular research project.

Dialog Profound subscribers now access the service through an intuitive and user-friendly tabular interface designed to both help occasional users find relevant information quickly and also to serve the sophisticated needs of experienced searchers. The same interface also provides access to the other Dialog services operating on the new platform, enabling Dialog Profound subscribers to search a broad range of Dialog content seamlessly and to link easily between documents stored on different Dialog services.

Dialog also has introduced SmartTerms(tm), a new business information taxonomy (or, indexing system) now available through Dialog Profound, and a cost-recovery service called Dialog BillBack(tm).

"SmartTerms, coupled with the unique Dialog Profound content resources, allows our subscribers to find the market intelligence they need quickly and intuitively," said Murphy. "And it means Dialog Profound users now can be even more confident in their search results."

Other benefits include more options for customization, relevancy ranking, results sorting and flexible output choices.

Best known as the professional information market's most comprehensive source of market research, Dialog Profound includes a continuously updated collection of more than 200,000 market research reports contributed by some 130 top research firms covering different industries and companies worldwide.
