DTE Energy Technologies Launches Ultra Low-Emissions On-Site Energy Systems with Industry Best CEGR Technology

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – DTE Energy Technologies, a non-regulated subsidiary of DTE Energy Co. (NYSE:DTE), has launched a new line of ultra low-emission, high-efficiency, on-site energy systems using cooled exhaust gas recirculation (CEGR) engine technology. These systems have among the lowest emissions in the distributed generation market and are capable of meeting the strict guidelines of the California Self Generation Program for 2007 emissions.

DTE Energy Technologies features CEGR technology in its new “ENE” series, which is part of the energy|now™ product line. These units, powered by natural gas, are equipped to provide highly reliable combined heat and power (CHP) with electrical outputs of 202 to 350 kilowatts (kW), net electrical efficiencies of more than 34 percent and total efficiencies of 89 percent. In CHP applications, waste heat provides commercial and light industrial businesses with heating, air-conditioning, domestic hot water and process-use hot and chilled water. The systems are ideally suited for providing base load power in either grid parallel or grid independent applications. All ENE units are monitored remotely using DTE Energy Technologies’ proprietary energy|now System Operations Center™, which controls and monitors on-site power equipment via the Internet.

The CEGR technology was developed jointly by Menag Group AG of Switzerland, Liebherr Engines, ETH Zurich (Zurich University) and the Swiss Ministry of Energy, and included gas industry funding. Field testing began more than two years ago and sales of commercial units began in the fall of 2002. The CEGR technology has been well proven through the accumulation of more than 60,000 hours of demanding cogeneration use in Europe.

DTE Energy Technologies has an exclusive worldwide joint distribution agreement with Menag, which pioneered the use of CHP in Switzerland and Germany and has been a leading European provider of on-site energy systems, generator sets and services for 35 years. The more than 1,200 Menag energy systems in use now have supplied hundreds of thousands of hours of efficient operation in applications such as hospitals, hotels, landfill gas operations and wastewater treatment and purification plants.

Many governments and utilities are increasingly offering grants, tax incentives and rebates to encourage the use of cogeneration as a cost-effective, efficient and sustainable solution for commercial, multi-family and industrial energy customers. By helping customers qualify for incentives, ENE systems can reduce energy spending by as much as 50 percent in some areas.

“We are proud to launch our ENE Series of on-site energy systems using this innovative CEGR technology,” said G. Paul Horst, president of DTE Energy Technologies. “These systems offer the lowest emissions in our industry and will certainly provide our customers with an extremely efficient and reliable energy alternative that contributes to the well-being of the planet.”

DTE Energy Technologies is a member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Combined Heat and Power Partnership. The Partnership facilitates the implementation of environmentally beneficial CHP projects and works to raise awareness and support of the development of new CHP products and projects.

As a leading supplier of integrated on-site energy systems and services, DTE Energy Technologies has sales and support offices located throughout the United States and Canada, and a growing network of distribution partners in Europe and Asia. DTE Energy Technologies has shipped more than 2,000 standby and continuous duty energy systems since its founding in 1998.
