Secure-i Launches Hosted Video Recorder Web-Based Surveillance Services

Commercial and residential markets projected for growth with better, less-expensive technologies

Chicago (11/19/2008) - Secure-i has launched its Hosted Video Recorder (HVR), an on-demand video surveillance service, to the home and small business markets via its website (www.secure-i.com). The service uses industry-leading network video cameras from Axis, modified to vastly simplify installation, configuration and use. Connect an HVR-enabled camera to power and a broadband internet router; it auto-negotiates a connection to the HVR servers. Users create a private account at the Secure-i website, choosing from among many service levels and video retention options. Within minutes of registering the camera, users have secure access to footage, both in real time and for later review, through any web-browser or web-enabled phone. No extra hardware, software or network configuration is required.

"This is the future of security," says Andres Armeda, chief technology officer for Secure-i Inc. "We're working with industry-changing technology that helps us reach the residential and small business markets with easy-to-use, professional grade and cost effective products and service. A solution like HVR has been a long time coming."

Surveillance market growing - and changing

According to iSuppli, an applied market intelligence firm, Internet Protocol (IP)-based surveillance cameras are on a steady track to take over the video surveillance market currently dominated by analog closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras. iSuppli projects that sales of IP cameras will surpass those of CCTV models by 2011. IMS Research, a global electronics industry research firm, states that the IP video surveillance market in the Americas, currently at $1.2 billion, is expected to reach $1.6 billion in three years.

The advantages of Internet Protocol (IP)-based video surveillance over traditional analog CCTV are many. Picture quality is greatly improved with progressive scan technology, ending the blurriness of interlaced images. Intelligent features like motion detection and image enhancement are built into the cameras. Video transmission can be encrypted for privacy, and megapixel resolutions are possible. Wireless data transmission and Power over Ethernet (POE) options are available on some camera models.

Many residential and small business consumers have been unable to benefit from these advantages. The expense of additional computer hardware and software is prohibitive, along with the difficulties and costs of proper network configuration and maintenance. Secure-i HVR eliminates such problems by hosting the internet service and the video event storage on their secure servers. With automatic network negotiation and monitoring between the cameras and the servers, management of a surveillance system is thereby centralized and simplified. Cameras and stored events from multiple locations can all be accessed and managed from anywhere, in one account. Moreover, HVR can notify you if the camera detects motion or loses its connection to the servers. Visit www.secure-i.com and request a demonstration.
