EXFO Releases an In-Service OTDR for Metro/Access CWDM Networks

Fast troubleshooting through CWDM mux/demux networks with EXFO's eight- wavelength compact solution

QUEBEC CITY, July 9 -- EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (NASDAQ:EXFO)(NASDAQ:TSX:)(NASDAQ:EXF) announced today the release of the FTB-7400E Metro/CWDM OTDR, an OTDR test solution that can offer as many as eight wavelengths in a single test platform designed for in-service troubleshooting of coarse wavelength-division multiplexing (CWDM) networks.

By combining two one-slot FTB-7400E OTDR modules in the FTB-200 Compact Platform, service providers benefit from a truly effective eight-wavelength solution, which contributes to maintaining high quality of service (QoS) by enabling mux/demux testing and ultimately reducing time to locate faults in a network.

When service providers are looking to offer new commercial services or to increase bandwidth on existing networks, CWDM systems are a cost-effective solution that brings new challenges for test instruments. Featuring selected wavelengths from 1470 nm to 1610 nm (ITU G.694.2 CWDM), the FTB-7400E offers service providers a high dynamic range for complete end-to-end loss and mux/demux validation at the construction phase. It allows them to test from the head-end without interfering with other users - a must for fast and accurate troubleshooting. By launching the FTB-7400E, EXFO is once again strengthening its industry-leading OTDR portfolio, renowned for unmatched accuracy.

The FTB-200 Compact Platform also offers a CWDM-calibrated power meter for precise power readings at each wavelength of the network. Moreover, operators seeking an integrated CWDM turn-up solution can combine the FTB-7400E with EXFO's high-performance FTB-5420S Optical Spectrum Analyzer into the newly launched FTB-500 four-slot platform.

"Our customers are always looking for ways to increase their productivity and reduce their costs. Thanks to our new CWDM OTDR, they have access to eight wavelengths in a single compact platform, without swapping modules," said Etienne Gagnon, EXFO's Vice-President of Product Management and Marketing. "As the leader in the OTDR test instrument market, EXFO is once again offering a great solution that will allow our customers to test better and faster."
