Access Announces the World's Smallest Document Reader

Ultra-compact optical character recognition module designed for OEM integration into portable devices

Reading, UK, June 23, 2008 - Access IS, the data input technology company, has introduced the world's smallest optical character recognition module. Designed for OEM integration into portable devices in which low power consumption is critical, the OCR130 measures 36.3 x 22.7 x 18.5mm and operates from a 3VDC power supply. The operating current is 130mA and this drops substantially when the reader is in rest mode, extending the battery life of portable equipment. Applications include security checks at airport boarding gates, accelerating airport check-in and police identification checking.

The module captures code lines from machine-readable travel documents including machine-readable passports, visas and travel cards conforming to ICAO Document 9303. In addition, APACS debit and credit documents can be read together with E13B OCRB and mixed E13B and OCRB fonts. Access' proven OCR decoder technology ensures fast and accurate document reading.

The OCR130 connects to the portable device electronics via a 12-way, 0.5mm-pitch, flat
flexible ribbon cable (FFC). Mating cables and connectors are also available from Access. Communication with external systems is via RS232 or USB interfaces.
