November 16, 2006 - Offering alternative to positioners for Safety Instrumented System (SIS) applications, D-EPIC Control Transmitter features integrated solenoid to control and monitor discrete valves as well as PST functionality. It senses valve position without linkages, levers, or rotary and linear seals. This 4-20 mA, HART-enabled transmitter, suitable for SIL3 service, eliminates position blind spots during valve stroke by supplying continuous feedback of either rotary or linear valve position.

Westlock Controls Introduces D-EPIC Control Transmitter

Non-contact device provides cost-effective alternative to positioners for SIS applications

SADDLE BROOK, N.J., November 13, 2006 -- Westlock Controls, a leader in providing innovative solutions for the networking, monitoring and control of process valves, today announced the introduction of the D-EPIC Control Transmitter. This 4-20 mA, HART-enabled, non-contact transmitter eliminates position blind spots during the stroke of a valve by supplying continuous feedback of either rotary or linear valve position.

The D-EPIC control transmitter features an integrated, low power solenoid used to control and monitor discrete valves, as well as integrated PST functionality. The device provides a cost-effective alternative to positioners for Safety Instrumented System (SIS) applications. Exida confirmed the D-EPIC is suitable for Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL3) service by performing a FMEDA with calculated PFD and SFF values.

Unlike conventional position transmitters, the D-EPIC senses valve position without the need for linkages, levers, or rotary and linear seals. Position sensing is performed by non-contact means via the use of an integrated Hall Effect sensor and magnet assembly. This also allows a remote sensor head assembly to be mounted up to 50 feet from the electronics enclosure.

Available in low copper content aluminum, 316 stainless steel or engineered resin enclosures, the D-EPIC is agency certified for non-incendive CID2 Groups A-G service and explosion-proof CID1 Groups B-D service with the MOD3 or 360/366 enclosures.

The D-EPIC Control Transmitter is easy to set up, and calibration is via a local, non-intrusive interface and integrated LCD display or HART communicator.

For more information about the D-EPIC Control Transmitter, contact Jack DiFranco, Westlock Controls, at (225) 296-8118.
