New Nickel Flux Cored Electrode Designed for Rugged Welding Environments

Fort Loramie, OH - Select-Arc, Inc. has introduced a nickel-based, flux cored electrode developed for welding applications requiring superior corrosion and oxidation resistance.

SelectAlloy 82-AP is a gas-shielded wire with a nominal weld metal composition of 19% chromium, 3% manganese, 2.5% niobium and a nickel balance. This electrode is primarily utilized for welding alloys 600, 601 and 800 to themselves, for the clad side of joints in steel clad with nickel-chromium-iron alloys and for the dissimilar welding of nickel-based alloys. It is also used for joining carbon steels to nickel alloys and for the surfacing of carbon steels.

SelectAlloy 82-AP provides superb performance characteristics in all positions. Flat, well washed beads are achieved with minimal weaving and the electrode produces very low spatter and excellent slag peeling. SelectAlloy 82-AP delivers out-of-position deposition rates that are significantly higher than those realized with solid wires or covered electrodes.

SelectAlloy 82-AP features outstanding resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking in chloride contaminated environments, making it ideal for welding in desalination plants. It is also well suited for welding applications that span a wide range of temperatures, from cryogenic to elevated, such as piping, furnace equipment, petrochemical facilities and power generation plants.
