Spansion Introduces VS-R Family for Mobile Phones and Machine to Machine Applications

64Mb to 256Mb solutions enable high performance, cost effective platforms

SUNNYVALE, Calif., -- Spansion Inc. (NYSE: CODE), today announced the Spansion® VS-R family to enable wireless handset makers to deliver economical entry-level and feature phones to emerging markets such as China, India, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The family is also ideally suited for cellular machine-to-machine (M2M) applications like remote medical monitoring equipment, fleet communications management and vending machines.

Both platforms rely on NOR Flash memory subsystems for required densities and performance. Key to enriching the lives of these new consumers is delivering regionalized entry-level handsets at competitive price points. Typical phones targeted for emerging markets range from voice-only models to full featured voice and data handsets with basic internet connectivity, cameras and gaming.
