Axsun Introduces Fastest Handheld NIR Analyzer at Pittcon 2007 (Booth 4390)

BILLERICA, Mass., Feb. 21 /- Axsun Technologies, Inc., a leading manufacturer of MEMS-based micro-optoelectronic spectrometers, announced today the introduction of the Anavo(TM) Analyzer, the fastest handheld NIR spectrometer on the market. This rugged analyzer, based on Axsun's revolutionary MEMS-based spectrometer is targeted at material identification applications ranging from plastics and polymer recycling, to incoming raw materials inspection to field measurements in the food and agriculture industry.

The heart of the Anavo(TM) Analyzer is Axsun's unique micro-optical platform, combining tunable laser technology, MEMS tunable filter as well as wavelength and power calibration all on a single optical chip. The resulting spectrometer boasts FT-NIR level performance in handheld, battery-operated package. The on-board material libraries and analysis software combine with Axsun's fast-scanning tunable laser technology to provide instantaneous material identification in even the harshest industrial environments. The Anavo(TM) Analyzer's intuitive user interface and easy-to-read LCD screen allow for simple operation by technical and non-technical users alike.

"For years, NIR has held the promise of bringing analysis out of the lab and into the field," commented Greg Smolka, VP, Sales & Marketing at Axsun Technologies, "but too often, compromises had to be made in terms of performance. With the advent of the Anavo(TM) Analyzer, users now have the performance of a high-end lab instrument in a truly handheld, field-ruggedized package."

"Our customers were looking to perform either qualitative or quantitative measurements, but they needed these measurements to be made in harsh, field environments," explained Larry McDermott, product line manager for the Anavo(TM) Analyzer. "They also wanted their answers fast, as time and throughput are money. We designed the Anavo(TM) Analyzer to provide instantaneous identification, specifically in field and industrial environments. While the system is designed to allow sophisticated users to add their own applications, we also know that many users may not be technical. Therefore, we designed an interface that allows users to be up and running literally minutes after taking the Anavo(TM) Analyzer out of the box."

Axsun will be debuting the Anavo(TM) Analyzer at the 58th Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy at McCormick Place in Chicago, February 25, 2007, at Booth 4390. While the Anavo(TM) Analyzer will find initial applications in plastics and polymer identification, Axsun expects that the speed, performance and rugged design of the Anavo(TM) Analyzer, coupled with the flexibility of its programmable library, will enable a host of exciting new NIR applications.
