Mazu Networks Announces Mazu Profiler Version 7.0

Mazu Networks Announces Mazu Profiler Version 7.0; Significant Product Upgrades and Extended Management Layer Integration Catalyze Next Generation of Network Behavior Analysis Systems

- Combination of Application Profiling, User ID and Route Path Identification Provide Enterprise-Wide and Real-Time Visibility -

INTEROP, NEW YORK and CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Sept. 18 -- Mazu Networks, the leading provider of Network Behavior Analysis (NBA) systems, today announced Mazu Profiler version 7.0. Through the release of Mazu Profiler 7.0, Mazu Networks is the only NBA vendor to provide customers with the innovative combination of application, user and route path identification. In addition, Mazu Profiler 7.0 introduces two-way integration at the management layer to create more intelligent and actionable alerts. These new capabilities are unique to Mazu Profiler 7.0 and enable organizations to gain increased intelligence on network users, their activity and the critical business systems involved.

"The ability to provide timely and valuable intelligence to security and operations groups will ensure information security as well as the availability of critical business systems. As such, these capabilities will define the next generation of NBA solutions," said Paul Brady, CEO, Mazu Networks. "With the release of Mazu Profiler 7.0, Mazu Networks elevates network visibility to cast light on what is really affecting business operations. Through this enterprise-wide and real-time visibility, Mazu Profiler 7.0 allows groups throughout the organization to quickly react to security, operations and business threats."

Enterprise-Wide and Real-Time Visibility

Enterprises are demanding deeper and more extensive visibility into who and what are connecting to critical business systems and how they are gaining that access. Previously, NBA solutions could provide visibility in terms of endpoints and network services, which allowed for improved visibility as compared with traditional technologies. However, NBA systems still only afforded intelligence of network activity at the endpoint, port and protocol level. The next evolution of NBA available in Mazu Profiler 7.0 elevates the network view by providing insight into specific users and applications, thereby providing intelligence on how the infrastructure supports this activity. Mazu Profiler 7.0 accomplishes this through three key integrations, including:

o Application profiling, which provides deeper insight through layer 7 analysis into the applications being used, independent of port number.
o User ID identification, which links risks and threats to specific users.
o Route path identification, which provides information on how people and applications use the network to communicate.

"The combination of application, user and route reporting will dramatically improve the visibility we have into network activity," said Ian Ballantyne, technology architect, Brookhaven National Laboratory, a multi-program national laboratory operated by Brookhaven Science Associates for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). "Gaining the 'who,' 'what' and 'how' intelligence on our network activity will enable us to better protect our critical assets, ensure application availability and ease the burden of our regulatory efforts."

Management Layer Integration

NBA systems dramatically changed security and networking operations by using routers, switches and probes, among other network devices, to gain visibility into how the IT infrastructure is used and identify threats and policy violations. NBA systems achieved this level of monitoring through broad integration at the infrastructure layer. Mazu Profiler 7.0 introduces far greater integration at the management layer through partnerships with Security Event Management (SEM/SIM), Vulnerability Management (VM) and Network Management Systems (NMS) vendors. Although most competitive NBA systems can send alerts to the management layer, only Mazu Profiler 7.0 has two-way integration, enabling real-time context on events, applications, systems and users. Through a new API, Mazu Profiler 7.0 enables management systems to pull real-time context information from Mazu Profiler from within its own interface. By right-clicking a host, port or protocol from within the management system, operators will now receive real-time context reports on how those elements are used within the network.

Through the integrations with leading management technologies, customers gain more network intelligence as well as a systematic way of dealing with critical network issues. Bringing together the different views that these management technologies provide when combined with NBA systems will enable enterprises to gain a more complete and valuable understanding of their enterprise IT environments.

"The integration of Mazu Profiler with leading vulnerability management technologies such as NeXpose creates a powerful security solution unlike any NBA product on the market today," said Alan Mathews, president, Rapid7. "Coupling the expert system within NeXpose with the NBA performed by Mazu Profiler provides an integrated real-time view of traffic and security threats which would be impossible to analyze using traditional systems."

Mazu Profiler

Mazu Profiler is a Network Behavior Analysis (NBA) system that provides real-time and enterprise-wide security and availability of critical business applications. Mazu Profiler consists of an appliance that passively listens to flow data from routers and switches inside a network to build and maintain a model of application and user behavior. The solution assesses risks and threats by performing real-time behavior analysis; monitors usage and access policy and can quarantine hosts using the very same routers and switches to respond to threats or enforce policy. Further, since Mazu Profiler uses an organization's existing infrastructure, no agents or inline hardware are required.

Pricing and Availability

Mazu Profiler 7.0 is available through Mazu Networks sales channels and network of value-added authorized resellers, distributors and systems integrators. Organizations seeking a reseller or distributor should contact Mazu Networks at: 866-354-MAZU or via email: info@mazunetworks.com. Mazu Profiler solutions start at $45K and can scale to meet the needs of any size network.
