NAND Controller offers SSD service life assessment.

Press Release Summary:

Along with static wear-leveling, 8-bit on-the-fly ECC, and multi-segmented cache, TrueSSD® provides SSD Service-Life Assessment for flash data storage products. Assessment, enabled by drive parameters gathered by included Hagiwara SMART Logging Tool software, helps companies determine SSD integration aptitude. It also provides insight into potential service-life in time as opposed to counts for devices based on actual drive usage.

Hagiwara Launches New SSD Service-Life Assessment Services for the Embedded Computing Market

Based on actual drive usage values, the service helps companies to measure aptitudes for SSD integration

IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 13 -- Hagiwara Sys-Com Co., Ltd. -- the industry leader in semiconductor application products for industrial/embedded computing -- today announced the launch of the new SSD Service-Life Assessment Services for its TrueSSD(R) controller based flash data storage products. Aimed to help companies determine SSD integration aptitude, the service provides insight into the potential service-life of the device based on actual drive usage.

As the SSD market continues to expand, an increased number of system designers are experiencing difficulties in determining SSD service-life, in essence finding the answer to "How long will this drive last?" Most manufacturer data sheets only provide limited information regarding service-life, such as "5 million write cycles," which is difficult for the system designer to translate in relation to their application. Although some vendors provide the "Service-Life" formula, obtaining the appropriate values still remains to be difficult.

The SSD Service-Life Assessment was designed to provide answers to "How long?"

The TrueSSD(R) device comes bundled with the "Hagiwara SMART Logging Tool" software. At preset time intervals, the software retrieves the resulting parameters during usage which are saved as a standard CSV file.

The file contains information such as:

-- Reallocated Sector Count
-- Program/Erase Count
-- Write Sector Count

Using this information, Hagiwara will provide a SSD Service-Life Assessment report to the client.

"A service like this is well overdue because more often than not, it (SSD endurance) is a black box for most people," says Youtaro Kunishige, Hagiwara Japan Sales Manager. "With the start of this service, those who had concerns can now feel confident about integrating SSD into their systems."

Hagiwara will provide the SSD Service-Life Assessment for free with a purchase of any TrueSSD(R) based solution starting September 2008.

The TrueSSD(R) is Hagiwara Sys-Com's newest proprietary NAND controller with Static Wear-leveling, 8-bit On-the-fly ECC and Multi-Segmented Cache. Currently supported devices: HFD series - 2.5/3.5-inch, PATA/SATA and capacities available 2GB to 128GB. 1.0-inch support is planned for 2009.
