ARG Announces STM-1/OC-3 Version of Popular ASI Combiner

1915 Media Combiner Transports up to Eight Different Signals over a 155 Mbit/sec Telecom Link

CIRENCESTER, England, April 4 / -- A.R.G ElectroDesign Ltd. announces the 1915 Media Combiner, which allows up to eight different tributary signals to be combined into a single interface for transport over STM-1/OC-3 telecom circuits. Applications for the 1915 include terrestrial circuits to connect with satellite uplink/downlink facilities, studio-to- transmitter links, remote venue video/data backhaul circuits, and a variety of other point-to-point circuits for broadcasters. This unit, which operates at 155.52 Megabits per second in full compliance with ITU-T Rec. G.703, will be featured at booth SU186C during the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention to be held in Las Vegas April 24-27, 2006.

Using advanced variable-rate multiplexing, the 1915 can combine up to eight different MPEG, data, or G.703 signals onto a single telecom link. Available tributary cards include dual DVB/ASI, dual LVDS(SPI) and dual T1/E1 telephony interfaces; up to four tributary cards can be installed in the 1915 for a total of eight signal interfaces. Each of the payloads contained in the incoming signals are transported transparently through the 1915 system; every PID is preserved intact and no re-timing takes place on any of the payloads. The incoming signals can be rate limited to ensure that the overall payload never exceeds the available network bandwidth. Two different levels of Reed- Solomon error correction can be applied to the high-speed output, ensuring that valuable user signals will get through even in the presence of network bit errors. Unit setup and configuration are provided through the user- friendly, menu-based front panel display or through the optional internal web server. All of these features are provided in a compact, 1RU shelf that features dual-redundant internal power supplies for maximum reliability.

The 1915 is the newest member of the acclaimed 1900 series of multi-signal multiplexers that have been installed in hundreds of locations around the world. Popular with satellite and other transport providers, these units have established a solid reputation in the Broadcast market for efficiency, cost- effectiveness, and reliability over the past fifteen years.

"A.R.G has a long history of providing customers with high quality products and outstanding customer service and support." said Peter Gilchriest, Technical Director of A.R.G ElectroDesign, Ltd. "We are confident that our customers will find the 1915 to be an innovative and useful solution to their networking challenges."
