LI-COR Introduces New Multiplexer for Automated Soil CO2 Studies

LINCOLN, Neb., June 2 -- LI-COR Biosciences now offers an automated solution for assessing spatial as well as temporal variability in CO2 flux. The new LI-8150 Multiplexer expands the capabilities of the company's LI-8100 Automated Soil CO2 Flux System by allowing up to 16 chambers to be controlled by a single LI-8100 Analyzer Control Unit.

The LI-8100 is an economical and lightweight system for measuring soil CO2 flux. It is designed for short-term survey or long-term unattended soil CO2 flux measurements over a wide variety of conditions. In addition to two optional survey chambers, the LI-8100 features a long-term chamber that can make automated diurnal measurements at a single location for weeks or months at a time. The long-term chamber features a unique, moveable design that minimizes the effects of the chamber on the natural soil conditions to give reliable results over long periods of time.

The new LI-8150 multiplexer allows a single LI-8100 to monitor a total coverage area of up to 30 meters in diameter. The LI-8150 is available in either 8 or 16 port configurations, allowing researchers to build onto systems by adding additional chambers at anytime. Inside its durable weatherproof case are high flow, low power, long-life solenoid valves, control electronics, an LED indicator panel, and the instrument's filter assemblies that clean incoming air from the chambers.

Measurements of CO2 flux and additional measurements of soil temperature and soil moisture at each chamber can be logged to the LI-8100's flash memory or stored on compact flash cards. The multiplexed LI-8100 System can be configured and monitored wirelessly with a PDA or by laptop. Windows(R) and Palm(R) interface software, along with data analysis software for post-processing, are included.

LI-COR Biosciences is a leader in the design and manufacture of instrument systems for plant biology, biotechnology, and environmental research. LI-COR instruments for photosynthesis, carbon dioxide analysis and light measurement are recognized worldwide for standard-setting innovation in plant science research and environmental monitoring. The company pioneered the development of infrared fluorescence labeling and detection systems for proteomic and genomic research.

Founded in 1971, the privately held company is based in Lincoln, Nebraska, with subsidiaries in Germany and the United Kingdom. LI-COR systems are used in more than 100 countries and are supported by a global network of distributors.
