Multiplexer/Demultiplexer incorporates 62.5 µm core fiber.

Press Release Summary:

Multimode fiber-based DWDM mux/demux offers 8 channel, 200 GHz spacing. It features uniform channel-to-channel insertion loss and large bandwidth due to broad flat-top passband. Insertion loss is typically less than 1 dB and polarization dependent loss is less than 0.3 dB over -40 to +85°C without any active temperature control. Variation across all channels is less than 0.2 dB. Adjacent channel isolation is typically greater than 30 dB.

APA Announces Delivery Of Low Loss, Large Bandwidth Multimode DWDM Multiplexer/Demultiplexer Incorporating 62.5 µm Core Fiber

Blaine, Minnesota: APA Optics, Inc. announced deliveries of its 8 channel 200 GHz spacing multimode fiber (MMF) based DWDM mux/demux components. The components are used for multimode fiber optic networks and other applications that use multimode transmission or benefit from multimode fiber in the receiver.

The 62.5 micron core, multimode fiber based DWDM design is based on APA's patented high frequency bulk diffraction grating based platform and builds on the company's experience in design, assembly and testing of both singlemode and 50 micron core multimode fiber based DWDM mux/demux components.

In particular, the 62.5 micron MMF model has significantly lower and more uniform channel-to-channel insertion loss and larger bandwidth due to its broader flat-top passband. Additionally, the new DWDM has negligible fluctuations with time and temperature due to its improved optical characteristics. The 62.5 micron MMF DWDM will also work with 50 micron multimode fiber as well.

"Insertion loss for this DWDM product is typically less than 1 dB and polarization dependent loss is less than 0.3 dB over -40° to +85° C without any active temperature control," reports Terry VanderWert, APA Optics general manager for fiber optic products. "Uniformity of insertion loss, a distinguishing feature of the APA design, is also exceptional. Variation across all channels is less than 0.2 dB."

Other specifications of the components include: customer specified starting wavelength tolerance ± 0.05 nm (6 GHz), flat-top passband having a -0.5 dB width greater than 0.6 nm (for 62.5 µm core multimode fiber) and adjacent channel isolation typically greater than 30 dB.

Additional design features of APA Optics DWDM Multiplexer/Demultiplexer include: low non-adjacent and total crosstalk, and an athermal design which requires no active temperature control. They are available in both singlemode and multimode versions.
