Available in case sizes 0603 through 3640, Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors in X7R and Y5V dielectrics feature polymer termination, which consists of epoxy material that is applied to capacitor under standard nickel barrier finish to buffer mechanical stress. Devices can accommodate board flexing from depanelization, secondary mounting, testing, and vibration with minimal cracks.

Polymer Termination
NOVACAP now offers polymer terminated capacitors in the X7R and Y5V dielectrics on case sizes 0603 through 3640. All combinations of voltage ratings and capacitance offerings listed in the catalog are available.
Polymer termination is a proprietary flexible epoxy material that is applied to the capacitor under the standard nickel barrier finish to buffer the mechanical stress.
Board flexing from depanelization, secondary mounting, testing, and vibration may result in stress fractures in the ceramic, which can lead to capacitor short circuit failures. The polymer terminated capacitors are able to accomodate a significantly increased degree of board flexure compared with standard terminated capacitors. The devices will afford a wider process window, increased safety margin, and substantially reduce the cracks from mechanical stress. The devices require no change to the assembly process, equipment set up, or storage procedures.
