Harris Corporation Introduces New Unity Multiband Mobile Radio for In-Vehicle Full-Spectrum, Mission-Critical Communications

BOSTON, MA, - Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) expanded its Unity family of public safety and professional communications radios by introducing the new Unity(TM) XG-100M full-spectrum multiband mobile radio. The powerful radio brings public safety, utility and transportation users true interoperable communications on a mobile platform - whether they are handling day-to-day tasks or coordinating large-scale, emergency responses.

Multiband, multi-mode capabilities enable a single radio to communicate with multiple organizations, jurisdictions and agencies operating on different frequencies and systems.

"The new Unity(TM) XG-100M covers all public safety frequency bands, from VHF through 800 MHz, in a single mobile radio," said George Helm, vice president and general manager, Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications. "It uses advanced technology to deliver critical interoperable communications and unique wireless applications to the mobile radio user."

The Unity XG-100M offers a unique solution with its combination of full-spectrum multiband capabilities and suite of advanced features. In noisy emergency situations, the Unity's noise-suppression technology delivers clear voice quality - even with sirens blaring or fire engines running. Noise suppression for any operating mode is achieved with advanced signal processing for both analog and digital communications.

The Unity radio also includes:

o GPS (global positioning system)-enabled situational awareness.

o Bluetooth® wireless connectivity.

o Software-defined radio architecture that enables future growth, including a software-only upgrade to APCO P25 (Project 25) Phase 2, the next-generation emerging standard for mission-critical communications.

The Unity XG-100M radio supports P25 Trunking, P25 Conventional and Analog FM modes of operation. In a single radio, it covers the UHF, VHF, 700 and 800 MHz bands. It is capable of continuously scanning all bands, voice modes and encryption types. The radio also delivers 50W transmit power for both UHF and VHF, and 35W for the 700/800 bands. Additionally, a high-power 110W model is planned as part of the Unity family.

The Unity family also includes the handheld Unity XG-100P, which supports digital APCO P25 secure and analog FM communications across VHF, UHF, 700 MHz and 800 MHz public safety bands in a single portable radio. The radio is built to military standards for ruggedness and immersibility. It is designed to be intrinsically safe and features a true software-defined radio architecture that allows flexibility for future growth, including a software-only upgrade to APCO P25 Phase 2, the next-generation emerging standard for mission-critical communications.
