February 28, 2007 - AB5 Driver is available with Thermal Protection (TP) circuit, which minimizes damage to motor due to overheating. Based on microcontroller, TP option is EOP (Envelope of Performance) computing algorithm that calculates motor temperature by time integrating command, corresponding to input power, and calculating heating/cooling profile of motor. Following configurations are available: HR or ST motor, 25° or 50° ambient air temperature, and 25° vacuum environment.

Thermal Protection: Providing Additional Protection for Demanding Applications

Nanomotion is proud to introduce a new Thermal Protection feature within the AB5 Driver. Thermal Protection (TP) is a motor protection circuit within the AB5 driver that is designed to minimize damage to the motor due to overheating. Based on a microcontroller, the TP option is an EOP (Envelope of Performance) computing algorithm that calculates the temperature of the motor by time integrating the command, corresponding to the input power and calculating the heating/cooling profile of the motor.

The TP feature is particularly suitable for the following applications:

o Demanding applications that operate in high duty cycles
o Vacuum applications that operate on the edge of the EOP
o Applications that are characterized by complicated installation/integration processes
o Joystick operation in open loop.

o The TP feature will be offered in the following configurations: HR or ST motor, 25° or 50° ambient air temperature, and 25° vacuum environment The Thermal Protection feature will be a standard feature in every AB5 driver from March 30, 2007.

Nanomotion offers a wide range of ceramic servo motors based on ultrasonic standing waves, for advanced motion control and automation systems. Nanomotion's patented technology offers exceptionally high resolution, unlimited travel, and no intrinsic magnetic field. The compact packaging and ability to drive linear or rotary devices makes this technology well suited to applications in Semiconductor, Fiber Optic, Electronics, Bio-Medical/Pharmaceutical, Automotive, and General Assembly manufacturing equipment.
