January 26, 2009 - As driver for NEMA 11, 17, and 23 frame brushless servo motors, CANopen DSP 402 (CiA DSP 402 v3.0) defines such functions as start-up and homing techniques and motion profiles. It can be used on any SilverDust programmable servo motor controller that supports CANopen, and host controller supporting CiA 402 could command multiple CiA 402 motor controllers from multiple vendors. CiA 402 runs on top of CiA DSP 302 v4.0, which may be configured for peer-to-peer, master, or slave.

CiA 402-CANopen Drives and Motion Control Profile

QuickSilver Controls, Inc. adds CANopen DSP 402 (CiA DSP 402 v3.0) to its line of controllers/drivers for NEMA 11, 17 and 23 frame brushless servo motors.

CiA 402 can be used on any SilverDust programmable servo motor controller that supports CANopen by downloading a special file. For more information, see application note "QCI-AN060 CiA402-CANopen Drives And Motion Control Profile".

CiA 402 refers to CAN in Automation (CiA) CANopen Drives and Motion Control Profile 402. This profile defines such functions as start-up and homing techniques as well as motion profiles. A host controller, for example a PLC, supporting CiA 402 could command multiple CiA 402 motor controllers from multiple vendors.

CiA 402 runs on top of CANopen (CiA DSP 302 v4.0) which may be configured for peer-to-peer, master or slave. This allows the controllers to share I/O and registers with other CANopen enabled SilverDust(TM) controllers or 3rd party CANopen devices (i.e. I/O blocks, encoders, PLCs...). For a multi-axis system, make one the master and let the others receive motion commands over CANopen.

For more information on CANopen and CiA DSP 402 see http://www.can-cia.org/ (See their respective trademarks.)
