November 15, 2001 - MS 100 Rapid Mortar Mill homogenizes sample volumes of 2 to 25 mL to particle size less than 20 microns, enabling samples to be pelletized for subsequent use in X-ray fluorescence or other spectral analyses. Grinding sets are available in 2 sizes and 5 different materials. Required fineness is typically achieved in 3 to 5 min. Unit has digital speed control settings for mortar and pestle, timer, and memory for 3 speed/time combinations.

Retsch, Inc. Introduces New Rapid Mortar Mill MS 100
Retsch, Inc. recently launched its Rapid Mortar Mill MS 100 for precise X-ray fluorescence or other spectral analyses requiring adequate accurate sample preparation. The MS 100 homogenizes small sample volumes (2-25 ml) to a particle size < 20 microns enabling the samples to be pelletized for subsequent analysis. Due to the high speed differential between mortar (max. 30 rpm) and pestle (max. 3000 rpm), the required fineness is typically achieved in 3-5 minutes.
The reproducibility of all relevant parameters is guaranteed by digital speed control settings for mortar and pestle; digital timer; memory function for three speed/time combinations; scales in mm-increments for the pestle pressure, and clearance. With the grinding sets available in two sizes and five different materials, this bench-top mill can easily be adapted to the individual task, and undesired contamination of the sample is avoided. A particular advantage of the MS 100 Rapid Mortar Mill over bead mills or vibratory disc mills is its very easy cleaning feature.
