Each channel accepts and generates any frequency from 1 KHz to 750 MHz to support any communication service over optical networks. Operating from crystal resonator or clock oscillator, translator supports 8 input references configurable as single ended or differential.

Single-chip Line Card Device Integrates Quad DPLLs for 100G Muxponders

ALISO VIEJO, Calif.,  -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, today expanded its market-leading optical transport network (OTN) portfolio with the single-chip, ZL30165 line card device for OTN transport and switching applications. The ZL30165 is the industry's first monolithic line card device for OTN transport and switching applications. The ZL30165 has already been selected by number of leading OTN equipment manufacturers for use in 40G and 100G equipment. 

Key features include four integrated digital phased lock loops (DPLLs) capable of locking on to up to 10 inputs targeting muxponder applications that support multi-client transport on a single wavelength.  This allows equipment manufacturers to reduce the number of PLLs devices required in 100G applications, which saves board space and reduces bill of material costs.

"Our highly integrated ZL30165 line card allows equipment makers to bridge the capacity bandwidth gap between existing 10G networks and 100G pipes that are now being deployed," said Maamoun Seido, Microsemi  vice president of the company's Timing Products group. "With the addition of the ZL30165 to our product portfolio, we now offer a comprehensive suite of single, dual and quad channel low jitter solutions for OTN. We also have a full suite of products in development to support the continued growth of the optical backbone."

According to market research firm Infonetics, total OTN revenue (OTN transport and switching equipment) is expected to be $7 billion in 2012, or 55 percent of all optical spending, with an expected growth rate of 13 percent per year through 2016, or 80 percent of all optical spending.

"Growth of 100G is exceeding our most optimistic predictions and, in turn, significantly bolstering the optical transceiver end-market," said Andrew Schmitt, principal analyst for optical at Infonetics. "The availability of components such as the ZL30165 that increase the density of line cards is essential in order to support the rapid deployment of cost-effective 100G networks."
