Modules provide optical performance monitoring.

Press Release Summary:

Used in system OEM's line card or by carrier as stand-alone subsystem to monitor network section, OPM Modules offer power, wavelength, and OSNR monitoring with accuracies at both 100 GHz and 50 GHz channel plans. OPM solution is designed as plug-and-play module for PowerNode shelf that provides composite optical power monitoring for dark fiber applications, or full channel-by-channel monitoring of optical performance for DWDM applications.

Avanex Announces Industry Leading Optical Performance Monitoring Product Portfolio

FREMONT, Calif., March 2 / -- Avanex Corporation (NASDAQ:AVNX), a pioneer of intelligent photonic solutions that enable next- generation optical networks, today announced the availability of an industry leading optical performance monitoring (OPM) product portfolio, which serves system OEM and carrier customers. The OPM product portfolio will be displayed at OFC 2006, booth 2640 on March 7-9, in Anaheim, Calif.

Optical networks are becoming increasingly flexible and complex with the incorporation of advanced technologies, such as ROADMs and controlled optical amplifiers. As a result, customers require significant performance information throughout the entire optical network. The Avanex OPM product portfolio provides a one-stop solution for OEM and carrier customer optical performance monitoring needs. An OPM module can be used in a system OEM's line card or a carrier can use an OPM stand-alone subsystem to monitor a network section.

"The Avanex OPM offers power, wavelength and OSNR monitoring with industry leading accuracies at both 100 GHz and 50 GHz channel plans," said Giovanni Barbarossa, CTO of Avanex. "OPM solutions are offered at module, line card and network ready levels, and are now being tested or deployed by multiple tier one OEM and carrier customers."

Avanex also offers OPM modular solutions through its PowerNode(TM) Flexible Optical Layer platform. Using standard SNMP or TL1 interfaces, the OPM can be directly deployed and managed as a stand-alone network element on a carrier's optical network node. The OPM solution is designed as a plug-and- play module for the PowerNode shelf that provides simple composite optical power monitoring for dark fiber applications, or full channel-by-channel monitoring of optical performance for DWDM applications.
