Solidica Unveils Solo Matrix, Advanced Sensor Aggregation & Network Translation/Distribution Module

Smart module combines integrated signal acquisition, translation and vehicle network communication with extensive configuration flexibility.

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 23 / / - Michigan-based Solidica, Inc. announces Solo Matrix(TM), the newest member of the award-winning Pantheon(TM) Smart Sensor Network System product family. A stand-alone, customizable signal acquisition and translation module that aggregates up to 32 analog or digital signals and converts them into vehicle network messages, Solo Matrix offers nearly unlimited network messaging flexibility and tailoring to specific vehicle or customer applications.

Solo Matrix will be unveiled at the Department of Defense Maintenance Symposium in Denver, Colorado, between October 27 and 29, 2008. Solidica representatives will be on hand to demonstrate the features of Solo Matrix at Booth #426 throughout the Symposium. "The military ground vehicle market has consistently demonstrated a need to integrate multiple, disparate analog and digital signals into a vehicle network environment," said Rick Fortson, VP of New Product Development for Solidica. "Whether applications include converting vehicle signals to vehicle network messages, platform-specific retrofit upgrades, or engine and drive-train enhancements, the Solo Matrix can be configured to perform according to platform- and application-specific requirements."

"With the growing military requirements of platform life extension, add- on/retrofit platform enhancements and condition-based maintenance, the Solo Matrix responds to such needs in a single rugged, compact and configurable upgrade kit module," said John McGinnis, VP - Pantheon Product Division.

The Solo Matrix Product Architecture

Solo Matrix features vehicle network interfaces and discrete analog and digital inputs with built-in vehicle-level signal conditioning. Acquired analog or digital signals are converted and transmitted over its built in CAN message translator and network interface, using standard protocols such as SAE J1939. User-customizable data transmission rates, engineering unit conversion and PGN/SPN assignments allow for nearly unlimited network messaging flexibility. The Solo Matrix programmable real-time data-value-limits testing enables user-defined DTC fault code generation, and the module's configurability also allows customizable sample rates and state change detection for nearly any input.

Designed to survive in rugged environments and support a wide variety of applications, Solo Matrix is automotive temperature rated from -40 degrees Celsius to +125 degrees Celsius, and may be permanently mounted in a vehicle's engine compartment for continuous monitoring of signals such as VSS, alternator and battery current, turbo systems and nearly every other signal present under the hood, as well as body module and drive-train applications.

Solo Matrix directly accepts vehicle signals from 12 and 24 volt electrical systems. Two differential current measurement inputs, two variable reluctance and Hall-effect inputs, and 22 single-ended 12 bit analog inputs with ESD-protected 28 volt full scale signal conditioning are also included. Up to 4 Solo Matrix modules may be coupled to one another for expanded input capabilities. Solo Matrix connects directly to vehicle power sources from 9 to 36 VDC. The module also includes a wide range of output interface options such as TTL-level programmable PWM and Input Capture timer I/O pins, I2C, SPI as well as serial SCI ports. A USB interface is also available to optionally connect the Solo Matrix to a host PC for data acquisition and Vehicle Network protocol converter applications.

"While being unveiled at a military market event, the Solo Matrix effectively and affordably fills a significant market need both in military as well as civilian markets," said Ken Johnson, President and CEO. "The challenge of including multiple, distinct - and often retrofit - signals into a cohesive vehicle infrastructure is prevalent in nearly any vehicle fleet undergoing modernization. A single, scalable and configurable module that effectively solves this challenge has been welcome news to OEMs and system integrators." The Solo Matrix, as any Solo(TM) product, is compatible with Solidica's Pantheon(TM) Network Sensor system, where it operates in conjunction with embedded diagnostics, prognostics, telematics and specialty sensor systems. When combined with Solidica's Chorus(TM) Diagnostics, Prognostics & Telematics System, the module further increases the analog-to-digital complement already present on the Chorus(TM), delivering even greater modularity and implementation flexibility.
