Horton introduces Shogun(TM) Modular Fans

Myriad configurations for maximum cooling

ROSEVILLE, Minn.-Horton has introduced its first modular fans, including Shogun Modular Fans. Shogun is available in a variety of blade counts and configurations for first-fit applications and is compatible with Horton and competitive viscous fan drives.

"Modular designs reduce the amount of tooling required and also require less manufacturing time," says Neal Shawaluk, director of sales for off-highway, industrial and specialty markets at Horton. "That means the new products get to market much faster, and our customers benefit from innovation without waiting."

Blade segments on the new fans are riveted to a center disk for efficient customization. The fans are available in diameters ranging from 16 inches (406.4 millimeters) to 22 inches (559 millimeters) and in configurations of six to 10 equally spaced blades. Staggered blade configurations are available upon request, and fans are offered in clockwise and counterclockwise rotations. Shogun Modular Fans feature standard pilot sizes ranging from 1 inch (25 millimeters) to 5 inches (127 millimeters) and a pitch width of 2.44 inches (62 millimeters). Maximum tip speed is 18,000 feet per minute (91 meters per second).

The ideal configurations and specifications for maximum cooling performance for a customer's applications are determined with assistance from Horton engineers. Unique, innovative manufacturing methods help to minimize deflection and reduce fan stress for greater efficiency and more stable airflow-up to 14,000 cubic feet per minute (6.607 cubic meters per second).

Shogun Modular Fans were designed to meet the cooling requirements of new reduced-emission engines. The fans are appropriate for viscous fan drives for buses, motor homes and off-highway equipment such as agricultural tractors, skid steers and backhoes, and are compatible with all Horton and competitive viscous fan drives. The fans are fully tested to ensure optimum cooling and durability and are backed by Horton service guarantees.
