EVERETT, Wash., June 23, 2003 - Building on the advanced connectivity and wide-ranging functionality of its 700 Series Color family of mobile computers, Intermec today announced support for Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs. Windows Mobile 2003 software, which debuted today, makes it easier than ever to connect to wireless networks, includes enhanced e-mail capabilities and is designed to encourage platform innovation.
Windows Mobile 2003 will begin shipping on Intermec 700 Color models in Q3. Upgrades will be available for current 700 Series Color customers, as well.
Intermec, a Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 launch partner and recent Microsoft OEM partner of the year, has combined Windows Mobile 2003's ease of use with mobile computers that can be used through a company's enterprise. The 700 Color Series is designed for mobile workers and any circumstance that requires full computing ability and device durability.
"Windows Mobile 2003 software provides the wireless connectivity, messaging capabilities and features required by serious enterprise users," said Juha Christensen, corporate vice president of the Mobile Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. "Mobile workers everywhere now have the advantages of the latest operating software combined with the ruggedness and communications capabilities of Intermec's 700 Color Series."
Intermec's latest 700 Series model, 760 Color, for example, is the first enterprise Pocket PC mobile computer to offer integrated imager options to read 1D and 2D bar codes. It supports image capture applications, including signature capture, making the 760 Color ideal for a wide range of mobile worker applications.
The Intermec 760 is the first rugged Pocket PC mobile computer to support either Global Packet Ready Service (GPRS) or Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) 1xRTT connectivity. This powerful range of communications options allows users to make voice calls and access enterprise data wirelessly through high-speed packet data networks.
"The 760's extended connectivity capabilities improve the quality of information moving throughout an enterprise, increase accuracy at the point of data collection and provide timely information - all factors that drive better decision making" said Intermec Director Rich Sherman, who leads Intermec's Terminals and Computers group.
The 760 is the only PDA currently shipping that integrates up to three radio communication options in a single device, including a wireless local area (802.11b) radio, a GPRS or CDMA wide area network radio and a fully integrated power-managed Bluetooth (tm) radio in a single rugged package. With an industry-standard platform that provides maximum processor, memory and storage resources, mobile workers can retrieve information and make solid business decisions while performing work in the field.
