AVX Expands Miniature Multilayer Varistor Series Capacitance Range to 50PF

AVX Corporation has expanded the miniature Transguard® Series multilayer varistor (MLV) to include 50pF versions in addition to the previously available 15pF and 33pF capacitance devices. Providing a 5.6V rating in an 0201 case size, the Transguard Series MLV offers designers the ability to clamp transients and filter EMI in one ultra compact device. Ideal for all small handheld devices, the miniature 0201 bi-directional transient voltage suppressor provides minimal signal distortion and low insertion loss.

"The unique construction of the miniature 0201 Transguard Series enables dual functionality -clamping transients and filtering EMI in one device -which decreases the chip count on printed circuit boards and reduces the real estate needed," said Sonja Brown, global product manager for circuit protection products at AVX. "The MLV is a cost-effective product that solves the designers' need for a circuit protection device that meets space constraints while providing superior protection."

The Transguard 0201 multilayer varistors are ideal for handheld devices, including cell phones and PDAs, as well as embedded components such as hearing aids and camera modules.

These products have multiple strike capability up to 1,000 strikes at 8kV of contact. The Transguard Series features a sub-1nS response time to ESD strike. The devices have a leakage current of <5µA at rated voltage.
