GSI Lumonics Announces New Spectron Direct-Coupled Mini DPSS Lasers

RUGBY, ENGLAND & FARMINGTON HILLS, MI, June 2003 -GSI Lumonics Inc. (Nasdaq: GSLI and TSX: LSI) announces a new series of low powered, end-pumped, direct-coupled, diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) lasers. With its no compromise design, the Spectron Mini
DPSS SLD6000 series lasers offer the best in solid-state laser build quality, reliability, and performance.

These new ultra-compact lasers with direct diode coupling to the Nd:YAG lasing media produce 5 Watts at 1064nm with a TEM00 beam quality that provides for the smallest of focused spot sizes giving optimized process control.

As with their more powerful counterparts, these lasers include a rugged sealed laser head and field-replaceable diodes. In addition, with the greater efficiencies afforded by end pumping, the lasers also possess ultra compact heads and power supplies, as well as integral cooling, avoiding the need for chillers.

The Mini DPSS SLD6000 lasers provide very high repetition rates, short pulses, and higher peak powers, which are essential for an increasing number of today's applications, which include
scribing, marking, inspection, and micromachining.

GSI Lumonics Inc. supplies precision motion control components, lasers and laser-based advanced manufacturing systems to the global medical, semiconductor, electronics, and industrial
markets. GSI Lumonics' common shares are listed on Nasdaq (GSLI) and The Toronto Stock Exchange (LSI). For more information on GSI Lumonics, please visit www.gsilumonics.com.
