Tangent Announces Solid State "Rugged Mini UX" System

-- Industrial Strength, Fan-less and with Hard Drive "Shock Absorbers, Designed for Demanding Environments

BURLINGAME, CA, (January 15, 2008) - Tangent Inc., today announced the Rugged Mini UX, an industrial strength mini computer that takes ruggedized to the next level.

The Rugged Mini UX is solid state, fan-less, designed for use on factory floors, in the field, mounted to carts or vehicles, or in any harsh environment. It withstands shock, dust, vibration, humidity, extreme cold and heat, and even electro magnetic interference.

Its rugged design includes a hard drive mounted on four gel mount shock absorbers (rated to 15G's of shock resistance). It has an oversized heat pipe and heat sink assembly to provide, fan-less convection-based cooling even in the most demanding environments. The solid state version comes with Compact Flash storage that has no moving parts.

Other features include four USB 2.0 ports, six COM ports for controlling multiple devices, including up to six monitors; built-in WiFi; VGA and DVI output for connecting a touch screen or flat panel monitor; a GPIO interface that can control LED panels, machinery, and other devices through a protocol and I/0 used extensively in manufacturing; an AC-DC adapter, and an optional DC wiring harness that can be direct wired to DC sources in a wide variety of marine, aviation, vehicle, military, and battery-powered cart applications.

Rugged Mini UX employs Intel's energy-saving Enhanced Speed Step technology for longer battery life and run times per charge, and cooler operation. The system uses just 44 watts at 100 percent utilization compared to a typical PC using 75-125 watts.

The Rugged Mini UX comes in a rugged enclosure with a compact form factor. It measures 9W x 7L x 2-inches H, and less than four lbs.

Tangent's Rugged Mini is available with a choice of low voltage Intel® Celeron® M, Core Solo, or Core Duo processor. It can be easily wall mounted or attached to a display screen via its mounting flanges.

The Rugged Mini UX has a starting price of $1,299 and comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Windows XP Pro. Tangent backs the Rugged Mini with a one-year parts and labor warranty and optional one year on-site service. It is available direct from Tangent at www.tangent.com. Tangent can customize units for volume buyers.
