Mori Seiki's Revolutionary NT6600 DCG® Offers Fastest Speed in Class

High precision, high efficiency mill-turn center offers world's largest Y-axis travel

Chicago, Illinois, July 3, 2008 - Mori Seiki is pleased to offer the NT6600 DCG®, a revolutionary machine that boasts the world's largest Y-axis travel, as well as the fastest Z-axis rapid traverse rate and tool change in its class. Offering unmatched accuracy and flexibility, the high precision, high efficiency integrated mill turn center is ideal for machining large parts and long workpieces for the aerospace, oil and natural gas industries.

With a Z-axis rapid traverse rate of 32,000 rpm and a Y-axis stroke of 2.16', the NT6600 DCG provides a maximum machining length of 19.93'. It is also equipped with a new Automatic Tool Changer that reduces tool change time to less than 10 seconds from any position on the spindle. As a result, the NT6600 DCG offers fastest tool change time of all long work machines.

Mori Seiki's NT Series of integrated mill-turn centers fully combines a lathe with a machining center. In designing the series, Mori Seiki completely rethought the design and construction of multitasking machines to harness the turning ability of a lathe and the cutting ability of a machining center. Constructed with a footprint of 33.1' x 14.9' x 14.7', the NT6600 DCG exceeds the machine structure of previous NT Series models with a 19.93' maximum turning length and a 3.51' maximum turning diameter.

Several of the company's proven technologies were incorporated to maximize the machine's performance. Like all machines in the NT Series, the NT6600 DCG employs DCG (Driven at the Center of Gravity) technology. DCG technology minimizes vibration by pushing moving structural parts along their simulated centers of gravity. As a result, machining accuracy is improved, machining time is reduced and tool life is extended.

Mori Seiki also incorporated DDM(TM) (Direct Drive Motors) to eliminate backlash and enable high-speed rotation, as well as the highly successful ORC(TM) (Octagonal Ram Construction) to ensure symmetrical heat expansion and maintain consistent center positioning. Additionally, the NT6600 DCG features the box-in-box construction of the NH Series horizontal machining centers and the turret with built-in milling motor from the NL Series of CNC lathes.

The NT6600 DCG will make its trade show debut at IMTS 2008. It is available in 12 variations, including 3 types of maximum machining length and 2 types of maximum spindle speed, enabling customers to make purchases based on the size of targeted work pieces.
