ACCESS Unveils 'NetFront IP Connect' Home Gateway Middleware

Proven ZebOS technology applied to home networks

TOKYO, May 13 -- ACCESS CO., LTD., a global provider of advanced software technologies to the mobile and beyond-PC markets and IP Infusion Inc., an ACCESS Company and provider of leading intelligent network software solutions powering communications equipment for packet-based Next Generation Networks (NGN), have unveiled NetFront(TM) IP Connect, their new middleware for home gateways. Developed for home gateways conforming to NGN specifications, NetFront IP Connect incorporates technologies used in ZebOS(R) middleware, industry-leading Layer 2 and Layer 3 carrier-class routing and switching software from IP Infusion. NetFront IP Connect will be demonstrated at the 11th Embedded Systems Expo (ESEC), which takes place in Tokyo, Japan from May 14 to 16 at Tokyo Big Sight.

NetFront IP Connect middleware enables the timely development of commercial products for NGN home gateways. The middleware provides carriers and equipment manufacturers with a visually intuitive user interface based on XML (Extensible Markup Language) and an API (Application Programming Interface) to allow for complete cross-platform interoperability among multiple applications.

ACCESS home network products include NetFront(TM) Living Connect, the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compliant solution which provides seamless connections between devices handling digital content such as movies and music, and NetFront(TM) IMS Client Package, which supports SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) for multimedia services such as IP telephony. Integrating these products with home gateways created using NetFront IP Connect will enable advanced home network solutions.

"We are excited to announce the development of NetFront IP Connect," said Toru Arakawa, CEO, president and co-founder of ACCESS. "When ACCESS acquired IP Infusion in 2006, one of our goals was to apply widely accepted ZebOS technologies to the development of software for NGN home gateways. ACCESS aims to coordinate our market-tested mobile solutions and home networks around NetFront IP Connect to deliver ubiquitous Internet access for home users."
