Mighty Cam CCD from Aven Handles Light and Color Challenges

ANN ARBOR, MI — A new microscope camera from Aven, Inc. is designed for demanding light and color challenges.

The Mighty Cam’s CCD sensor assures optimum color fidelity and excellent image quality for life sciences, industry, geology and education. Our eZMeasure software, which is included, allows measurement, analysis, annotation, archiving and presentation.

The ½” 1.4MP sensor delivers images and video with more detail and greater color precision than standard camera sensors. True-to-life hues are defined and reproduced consistently.

“Scientific-grade CCD cameras have been popular since digital microscopy began,” says Aven president Mike Shahpurwala. “That’s because of their ultra-high sensitivity, linear response to light and low background noise.”

With a video rate of up to 45 frames per second, Aven’s Mighty Cam precisely captures moving objects in medical and biotechnology research. (The frame rate is 20 FPS at full resolution of 1360 x 1024). It also can help identify and diagnose stained tissue samples.

Other applications include:

• Documenting industrial quality control checks, particularly in low light or when reflections must be overcome.

• Examining and documenting mineral, plant and insect specimens.

• Training medical students and lab technicians.

• Creating publications and presentations with annotated images that show measurements, other data or notes.

This microscope accessory, which attaches with a standard C mount, connects to any computer or monitor with a USB 2.0 cable, which is provided.

The ezMeasure software lets Windows 7 or 8 users interpret and preserve workbench observations. The program helps create reports with images, analysis and raw data. Operators can measure distances in millimeters or inches, save multiple settings and connect two cameras at a work station for side-by-side comparisons in real time.

Aven’s Mighty Cam CCD supports TWAIN and DirectShow multimedia interfaces.

The company’s extensive line of optical accessories for microscopy also includes a Mighty Cam USB 3.0 model for faster imaging and transfers (also with ezMeasure), two VGA color cameras and two HDMI color cameras.
