Cygnal Releases World's Highest Performance 8051 Microcontroller

AUSTIN, TX (September 8, 2003) - Cygnal Integrated Products, Inc. a manufacturer of mixed-signal integrated circuits, today announced availability of the C8051F120 microcontroller family. The C8051F120 features a 100 MIPS (peak) 8051 CPU and a two-cycle 16x16 Multiply-Accumulate (MAC) unit, setting a new standard for 8051 computation capability.

"The C8051F120 is the highest performance 8051 microcontroller available," said Danny Allred, Cygnal's Director of Product Marketing. "With its 100MIPS CPU throughput, large memory footprint, 16x16 MAC, and 12-bit ADC and DACs, the C8051F120 family is ideal for mixed-signal embedded control applications which require signal processing."

C8051F120 family devices include 128Kbyte Flash memory, 8448 bytes RAM, and are packaged in either a 100-pin or 64-pin TQFP. On-chip peripherals include a 12-bit 100ksps ADC, two 12-bit DACs, a 2% internal oscillator, temperature sensor, voltage reference, two UARTs, and much more. C8051F120 family devices start at $9.44 in 10,000 piece quantities. The C8051F120 devices also provide a pin-compatible upgrade path to Cygnal's popular C8051F124 family of 50MIPS 8051 MCUs, which start at $7.88 in 10,000 piece quantities.

The C8051F120 includes on-chip debug circuitry facilitating full-speed in-system debug features such as single-stepping, breakpoints, and modifying registers and memory. The C8051F120DK Development kit sells for $149 with features typical of in-circuit emulators costing much more. Both development kits and chips are available for purchase direct from Cygnal at cygnal.com.
