SchmartBoard Releases $15, 8-Bit Microchip PICŪ Microcontroller Board

Single Development Board Supports 116 Different PICŪ Chips

Fremont, CA - June 15, 2009 - SchmartBoard announced today the release of an 8-bit Microchip PICŪ development board. This single board supports virtually all 8-Bit PIC chips in an SOIC form factor.

The 2" x 2.5" board has an onboard 5V power regulator and reset button. It also supports optional external clock options, ICSP and RJ11 interfaces for programming. Eight Bit PICs in 8, 14, 18, 20 and 28 pin SOIC packages are all supported. A user simply hand solders a PIC using SchmartBoard's "EZ" solder technology, adds a row of headers (included), and then configures jumpers for the PIC type which was soldered onto the board.

"This PIC development board is the most flexible option on the market for PIC chip compatibility," says Neal Greenberg, SchmartBoard VP of sales and marketing. "If someone uses 8 Bit PICs often, at $15, this inexpensive solution offers them the opportunity to keep a number of development boards on hand and knowing they will work with any SOIC 8 bit PIC chip they use in the future. For a distributor this is a real inventory solution. A distributor can now stock one part to support over 100 PICs. Today a distributor must stock many different boards to support the many 8 Bit PIC options."

SchmartBoard will follow this product up with an 8 Bit PIC board for chips in a QFP form factor, boards for 16 Bit PICs and some development boards for other Microcontroller manufacturers.
