Stackpole Electronics, Inc. Announces the RS and RSM Series Capable of Operating Temperatures up to 235C

RALEIGH, NC (February 13, 2007) - Stackpole Electronics, Inc. announces an improvement to their RS and RSM metal oxide through-hole resistor series. This series now has improved its operating temperature range from 155C up to 235C. This improvement was made possible by improvements in materials and increased precision on process controls. These improvements come at no additional cost to the customer.

The RS series still has a flameproof coating and is capable of wattages from ½ watt up to 5 watts, resistance values from .1 ohms to 1 Meg ohm, and tolerances as low as 1%.
The RS series is well known as an inexpensive power resistor for general purpose and power applications. Now with this higher temperature capability, a whole new range of applications and end products are possible. Among those would be automotive, especially under the hood applications, industrial applications, drilling equipment and the controls and motors associated with it, welding equipment, and commercial and industrial kilns and ovens. Currently, wirewound resistors are most commonly the first
choice for these types of applications, but wirewounds are inherently inductive and are non-fusing. This new technology allows the use of metal oxide film resistors that have very low inductance and offer the inherent fusing characteristics that film resistors provide. Additionally, metal oxide resistors typically less expensive and are capable of a much broader resistance range than wirewounds meaning fewer series for
the customer to consider.

The RS and RSM series are available in tape and reel, ammo, and bulk packaging; see data sheet for package quantity details. Pricing is size, resistance value, and volume dependent but ranges from $20 per thousand to around $310 per thousand in minimum quantities.
