Message Center displays vehicle information.

Press Release Summary:

Suited for commercial, heavy-duty, and construction vehicles, Light Bar Message Center receives messages from vehicle data bus and signals from discrete switches and analog sensors throughout vehicle. It then processes data to drive telltales and gauge pointers, display vehicle information, or broadcast messages on vehicle data bus. Message center includes 11 switched inputs, 7 analog inputs, 2 switched outputs, audible warning device, and backlit LCD with two 20-character lines.

Light Bar Message Center Added to Next Generation Instrumentation System

NGI® Product Line Incorporates Latest Digital Technology For Commercial, Heavy-Duty and Construction Vehicles

GRAND JUNCTION, CO-The latest addition to AMETEK Dixson's modular Next Generation Instrumentation (NGI®) system is a Light Bar Message Center (LMC).

The LMC receives messages from the vehicle data bus and signals from discrete switches and analog sensors throughout the vehicle. The LMC then processes the data to drive telltales and gauge pointers, display vehicle information or broadcast messages on the vehicle data bus.

The LMC features SAE J1587/1939 (CAN) data bus communication; automatic self-test on each power up; eleven switched inputs, seven analog inputs; two switched outputs and an audible warning device; push-button, selectable displays and test functions; selectable primary display screens, backlight control for LCD display and NGI gauges; and 12- or 24-volt operation.

The amber backlit LCD contains two 20-character lines. Two switches with tactile feedback select and display trip information, fuel usage and service data plus a number of diagnostic screens. The LMC also displays fault codes and warning messages in real time.

The LMC can drive up to 12NGI gauges and contains 18 telltales, each illuminated by red, green, blue, amber or white LEDs. The LMC and all attached NGI gauges can be tested using the switches. The LMC meets all SAE J1455 and J1113 requirements for vehicular instrumentation and was developed to withstand harsh conditions typical of off-road environments.

AMETEK Dixson NGI® Instrumentation System
The NGI® system is a fully digital, multiplexed dashboard instrument system developed by AMETEK Dixson as a reliable, expandable and cost-effective alternative to analog gauges traditionally found on buses, heavy trucks, agricultural /construction equipment and other vehicles. It incorporates the latest digital technology and manufacturing techniques and can satisfy the instrumentation requirements of nearly all vehicle platforms.

The highly modular system readily lends itself to both retrofit and new dashboard instrument panels. It can accommodate as many as 24 modules (including a light bar). Using fewer gauges, the NGI system is appropriate for off-road vehicles such as construction and agricultural equipment and material handling vehicles. Among the features incorporated into the NGI® system are:

Modular Designs - All NGI® gauges incorporate the same pointer drive mechanism. That means only one type of assembly is manufactured and tested rather than separate assemblies for each size gauge. Cosmetic changes can be made simply and inexpensively.

Manufacturability - NGI® gauges simply snap together. No crimping of bezels or nut-and-stud assembly is required. The gauges mount into standard two- and three-inch cutouts.

Six Sigma Quality - The NGI® system was designed and developed in accordance with AMETEK Dixson's Six Sigma program. Gauges feature light-piped, life-of-vehicle, amber LED backlighting, 270 degrees sweeps and highly readable graphics. The system requires no calibration or maintenance. Both English and metric scales, with and without subscales, are available.

AMETEK Dixson is the leading U.S. manufacturer of custom dashboard instruments and displays for heavy trucks, construction, and agricultural equipment. It is a division of AMETEK, Inc., a global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electric motors with annualized sales of more than $1.8 billion.
