October 20, 2006 - With heat resistance up to 346°F, TP-4004, TP-4006, and TP-4007 are suited for casting thermoplastic-like prototypes. They feature gel times of 10-12 min at room temperature, and can be cured at room temperature or postcured at 150°F. TP-4004 has notched Izod impact strength of 6.0 ft-lb./in. and heat deflection temperature of 250ºF. TP-4006 combines 11,400 psi tensile strength and ABS-like flexural modulus of 300,000 psi, while TP-4007 has flexural modulus of 325,000 psi.

New Ultra-high Performance Polyurethanes Introduced

High Impact Strength with High Heat Performance Characterize New Polyurethanes for Prototypes

ST. JOHNS, Mich., Oct. 2, 2006 - Three mercury-free polyurethanes that exhibit a unique combination of high impact strength and high heat resistance (up to 174ºC/346ºF) were introduced today by Innovative Polymers, Inc., St. Johns, Michigan. Part of the company's family of advanced TP-4000 polyurethanes, the new systems are designed for casting thermoplastic-like prototypes for applications ranging from large automotive parts to sterilizable medical products and equipment components with intricate design details.

New TP-4004, TP-4006 and TP-4007 polyurethanes are easy to process with low viscosities and feature rapid gel times of 10 to 12 minutes at room temperature. The products can be cured at room temperature or postcured at 66ºC (150°F) for faster demolding. The Shore 65-80D hardness polyurethanes exhibit varied physical properties to meet specific customer requirements including:

TP-4004 polyurethane has a notched Izod impact strength of 6.0 ft. lbs./in., TPO-like flexural modulus and heat deflection temperature of 121ºC (250ºF). It is well suited for production of parts including impact-resistant vehicle bumpers and fascias.

TP-4006 polyurethane combines a tensile strength of 11,400 psi and ABS-like flexural modulus of 300,000 psi. Formulated with a notched Izod impact strength of 1.5 ft.lbs./in. and a heat deflection temperature of 130ºC (266ºF), the polyurethane is ideal for use in tough applications such as metal replacement in automated painting equipment.

TP-4007 polyurethane has a slightly lower tensile strength than TP-4006 but a higher 325,000 psi flexural modulus. The new product features a very high 174ºC (346ºF) heat deflection temperature. TP-4007 can withstand autoclave cycling used to sterilize medical products such as surgical trays.

Innovative Polymers, Inc. manufactures a broad range of polyurethanes for use in modeling, prototyping and short-run part production. The materials are formulated to perform in challenging environments - from the depths of the ocean to the vacuum of space - as well as a host of products used in medical manufacturing, architecture, aviation, sporting goods, automotive, consumer electronics, and material handling. Innovative Polymers was formed in 1992. In 2000, it opened a new 15,000 square foot manufacturing facility with a fully equipped research and development laboratory and quality control capability.
