Planar Announces World's First 16 Megapixel, 30 in. Grayscale Medical Display

Planar Dome® Z16 Unprecedented Resolution Designed to Improve Workflow Efficiency and Increase Diagnostic Confidence

CHICAGO--Nov. 26, 2007--Planar Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:PLNR), a worldwide leader in specialty display solutions, today at RSNA unveiled a new family of high resolution grayscale displays, the Planar Dome® Zx series. Planar will showcase the Dome Z16, the world's first 16-mexapixel, 30-inch single grayscale diagnostic imaging display. The Dome Z16 display supports Planar's strategy of providing innovative, high-end display solutions for the demanding healthcare market by offering medical professionals more accurate image representation, faster workflow and remarkable grayscale clarity.

Intended for medical applications requiring the finest precision and image quality, the new Dome Z16 delivers the richest and most detailed images available, all on a single piece of true 10-bit high-resolution grayscale glass without the split-bezel of a standard dual monitor configuration.

Diagnostic Displays Designed for Workflow Efficiency

Digital mammography screening workflow places strong demands on larger display real estate. Traditional 5MP dual-head workstations can inhibit radiologist speed of reporting due to the distracting bezels and limited resolution for study navigation. The 30-inch display size and design of the Dome Z16 offers seamless side-by-side digital study comparisons, less panning and zooming, and ultimate flexibility for innovative interface design.

"Planar again leads the way in medical displays with the introduction of its unique Planar Dome Z16 product," said Zachary Bujnoch, research analyst with Frost and Sullivan. "With an unprecedented 16MP resolution and a wide array of implementation possibilities, this exciting display is sure to shake things up in the diagnostic imaging space."

"Featuring larger display real estate and higher resolution than any other grayscale diagnostic offering available today, the Planar Dome Z16 greatly exceeds the capabilities of most medical imaging displays by improving workflow and the ability to read images at a faster rate," said Doug Barnes, vice president and general manager of Planar's Medical and Industrial Business Units. "With a full suite of offerings, such as the market's first 4-megapixel color display with the Planar Dome E4c and now the first 16-megapixel grayscale display, Planar continues to deliver breakthrough solutions that can simplify tasks for medical professionals, improve workflow efficiency and enhance patient care."

Innovation Designed for Easy Market Adoption

The Planar Dome Z16 is a native, 10-bit-per-pixel liquid crystal display with the ability to simultaneously display 1024 shades of grayscale. Planar's strong partnership with NVIDIA Corp. has made the 10-bit interface between application and display system simple and intuitive with the additional advantage of using professional NVIDIA Quadro® series graphics cards.

"Medical display technologies for mammography demand open architecture with fast application performance and high-contrast image quality," said Jeff Brown, general manager, Professional Solutions, NVIDIA. "By combining NVIDIA Quadro boards with Planar's innovative display technology, the new 10-bit Planar Dome Z16 provides exceptional image quality for the medical community, which can help aid in early detection and potentially save lives."

The Planar Dome Z16 continues to incorporate the open architecture convenience of Planar's E-series displays, allowing for flexible system configurations that meet the needs of particular applications. The Dome Z16 dual DVI input interface provides backwards compatibility with legacy installations as well as new installations on commercially available graphics adapters.
