Associated Spring-Raymond Introduces New Raymond® Mechanical Strut Family

New Mechanical Struts Offer Long Life

MAUMEE, Ohio, U.S.A., Aug. 30, 2002 - Over its history, Associated Spring-Raymond has worked hard to ensure its Raymond® coil and gas springs meet the quality standards its customers expect. Now, the company is taking the same approach with its new line of Raymond Mechanical Struts.

"Raymond Mechanical Struts are extremely durable, meet U.S. Food & Drug Administration requirements and offer flexibility almost regardless of the application," explained Olivier Kunckler, marketing and E-commerce manager. They have applications in a wide range of industries, including automotive, recreational, medical, pharmaceutical, defense, construction, marine, industrial, nuclear, chemical and agricultural.

Associated Spring-Raymond is initially offering two lines of extension-force struts:

o Standard Mechanical Struts: stainless steel shell construction and springs, with M6 ends. They are available in stroke lengths from 2" to 5" (50.8mm to 127mm), and forces from 17lbs. (76N) to 63lbs. (280N).
o High Load Mechanical Struts: stainless steel shell construction, hi-tensile carbon steel springs, and M8 ends. They are available in stroke lengths from 1" to 4.6" (26.42mm to 117.6mm) and forces from 238lbs. (1057N) to 529 lbs. (2354N).

Tension-force and centering-force designs are also available upon request.

While gas or pneumatic springs are typically used in applications like load lift and counterbalance or motion control and dampening, they have serious limitations. With Raymond Mechanical Struts, there are no internal gases or seals that can leak or puncture.

Also, as Kunckler noted, they are more durable - while able to withstand operating temperatures of up to 400° F, they offer consistent loads over time. In addition, the new Raymond Mechanical Struts offer various end configurations, including ball, blade or clevis ends.

"Because many strut applications are unique, we work closely with our customers to develop a mechanical strut that meets their individual specifications. Custom design, including assembly or kitting of adjoining hardware, is a priority for us," Kunckler added.

A world-wide leader in the design, manufacture and sale of springs, Associated Spring-Raymond, Barnes Group Inc., provides thousands of parts to industry, including mechanical struts, die springs, nitrogen gas springs, and service parts. In addition, the company offers a wide range of stock compression, extension and garter springs, curved washers, finger and wave washers and
retaining rings though its SPEC® catalog and Web site. For more information, visit www.asraymond.com. Associated Spring-Raymond is ISO 9001-certified.
