September 21, 2004 - Fixinspect® system consists of one adapter in shape of hemisphere that fits over bolt or into hole. By measuring contour of hemisphere, it is possible to define exact position of hole or bolt. Available in 3 magnetic types for use with ferrous metals, and 2 threaded, non-magnetic types for use with plastics or non-ferrous metals, all hemispheres are machined out of anodized aluminum with tolerances of .02 mm. Specially shaped variations are also available.

New Fixinspect System Measures Holes or Bolts

The makers of Alufix® are introducing a new product called Fixinspect® to provide fast measurement of bolts or holes in body parts. The basic unit is an adapter in the shape of a hemisphere that fits over a bolt, or into a hole. By measuring the contour of the hemisphere it is possible to define the exact position of a hole or bolt. There are five basic types of adapters: three types are magnetic, for use with ferrous metals, and two types are non-magnetic, for use with plastics or non-ferrous metals.

One set of magnetic adapters features a spring-loaded, tapered pin that automatically positions the adapter in the center of the hole. The second set features exchangeable fixing pins in steps of 0.1mm so that any hole diameter may be accommodated. The third magnetic set features unthreaded inserts that fit snugly over M5, M6, M8 or M10 bolts.

The two types of non-magnetic adapters are both threaded. One set comes with threaded inserts that screw directly onto M5, M6, M8 or M10 bolts. The other set features a tapered screw accessory that automatically centers itself as it is inserted through a hole and screwed into the hemispherical adapter on the other side of the material.

Specially shaped variations on the basic hemisphere are also available, including: one side flat, two sides flat or two sides cut to a 90° angle, etc. These are useful when measuring a hole or bolt in a corner, along an angle or in other hard-to- access-areas. All hemispheres are machined out of anodized aluminum with tolerances of .02mm. Fixinspect offers a simple, yet accurate method of measuring holes or bolts. The system components are available exclusively from Paul W. Marino Gages, Inc. of Warren, Michigan.
