Tyco Electronics Introduces FE Series of Ruggedized Mast Cables for Ground Mobile Communication Applications

New M/A-COM Cable Family Utilizes Internal Crush-Resistant Layer for Increased Protection

LOWELL, Mass. - Feb. 19, 2008 - Tyco Electronics today introduced a new series of M/A-COM FE Series of ruggedized mast cables intended for use in ground mobile communication applications. The series was designed with an internal wire-wound layer and rugged external jacket in order to prevent damage from harsh military environments such as being deployed to an external antenna from a mobile vehicle. The new M/A-COM ruggedized mast cable family (FE Series) can withstand harsher physical environments (such as crushing, abrasion or bending) than standard cable, while still maintaining acceptable VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Radio) and insertion loss performance. Cables are available in outer diameters ranging from 0.25 to 1.4 inches with a variety of connectors.

"Durability and performance are essential elements for consistent, reliable and effective ground mobile communications," said Ray Schwartz, cable technologist, Tyco Electronics. "Our new M/A-COM FE ruggedized mast cables can withstand the rigors of extended use in harsh physical environments such as mishandling during spooling and unspooling, being dragged over rocks and ice, crushing forces such as stepping on the cables or even vehicles driving over them. A high resistance to damage is a primary goal of this cable family and we are proud to provide our customers with a line of equipment that will reliably perform in the harshest conditions to support mission-critical communications."

The construction of the M/A-COM FE ruggedized mast cable family utilizes an integral helically wrapped, stainless steel spring to provide maximum durability and strength plus an extruded polyurethane outer jacket to protect it from abrasions and UV damage. The cables are available in various outer diameter sizes, offering increased power handling capabilities and can be configured for use with most common connectors. Longer lengths for remote antenna applications and phased matched sets are also available.
