Two Cold Weather Epoxies Introduced
Progressive Epoxy Polymers, Inc. (Pittsfield, NH), distributors of marine and industrial epoxy coatings and related products from several different vendors ("Multi-Vendor Epoxy Solutions"), has announced the introduction of two new solvent-free epoxies that will cure in temperatures below 40 degrees F.
LTC 38 (LTC = Low Temperature Cure - 38 degrees) is a clear, solvent free, marine epoxy designed for cold weather repair and boatbuilding. It has a mix ratio of 3:2. At 65 degrees the epoxy will cure hard in 20 minutes. At 38 degrees (epoxy temperature and application surface temperature) LTC 38 will harden in two hours (6 oz samples in plastic cups). A 2.5 gallon unit (1.5 gallons of resin and 1 gallon of curing agent) sells for $140.
Corro-Coat FC 2100 FAST CURE is a gray pigmented, solvent free, Kevlar (tm) and ceramic filled industrial epoxy. It is the latest member of the FC (fiber-ceramic) 2100 epoxy system family. In addition to standard Corro-Coat FC 2100 (use in temperatures above 60 degrees F), there is also a non-hazmat novolac version of 2100, a high temperature version of 2100, and a thicker gel version. Corro-Coat FC 2100 can be applied and will cure underwater. The new fast version will cure in water or air at temperatures below 40 degrees. At 55 degrees a 6 oz sample will cure hard in 50 minutes. A hard cure in non-moving 38 degree water takes 10 hours. FC 2100 FAST CURE sells for $140 in a 1.5 gallon unit and $1300 in a 15 gallon unit.
