Mandrel Sleeves help unwind/rewind coils.
April 16, 2008 -
Kastalon Mandrel Sleeves allow coil processor flexibility to unwind or rewind coils that are larger than maximum expansion of mandrel. Manufactured from Kastalon Polyurethane®, they are offered in slip-on or bolt-on versions with or without slot for tail gripper. Thin-walled sleeves prevent damage from coil creases, scratches, and marring; thick-walled units enable adjustments of ID size; and dual-durometer versions provide metal-like hard surface against mandrel with softer outer skin.

Mandrel Sleeves Prove their Weight in Gold
Kastalon Mandrel Sleeves allow the coil processor the flexibility to unwind or rewind coils that are larger than the maximum expansion of the mandrel. Kastalon sleeves increase the diameter of a mandrel for larger coils and increase the coefficient of friction. The quick and simple installation reduces downtime to a minimum. Kastalon Mandrel Sleeves (a.k.a. reel tubes) effectively prevent reel breaks and have allowed up to 13 times longer runs between mandrel rebuilds at a dramatic reduction in operating costs.
Made from specifically formulated Kastalon Polyurethane® with exceptional wear properties, these mandrel sleeves are custom engineered to fit the specific application.
o Kastalon offers slip-on or bolt-on sleeves with or without a slot for the tail gripper.
o Thin-walled Mandrel Sleeves used to prevent damage from coil creases, scratches, and marring, especially for softer-grade materials.
o Thick-walled Mandrel Sleeves for quick-change adjustments of I.D. size with the added benefits of protection.
o Dual-Durometer versions providing a metal-like hard surface against the mandrel with a softer outer skin to provide protection for the inner wraps of the coil.
Kastalon Mandrel Sleeves has proven an additional yield of 50-75 more sheet-per-coil output, which at a cost of $2 per sheet, is a savings of $800-$1000 per day. In addition, the manpower factor required to scrap the previously damaged sheet accounts for additional cost savings.
