Patton's Managed Industrial SHDSL Modem Cuts Setup and Operation Costs for Control Engineering Applications

Featuring a front-panel touchpad for fast, easy set-up, Patton's Model 3231 extends Industrial Ethernet connections up to 9.4 kilometers (5.84 miles) in rugged environments

GAITHERSBURG, Md., May 4 /-- Patton --- the leader in business and carrier-class network access, connectivity, VoIP and triple-play equipment --- announces the ruggedized Model 3231 Managed SHDSL Modem for industrial automation and harsh environments.

The Model 3231 reduces the cost of installation, configuration, monitoring and control with password-protected local and remote management options that enable the device to work with any existing network management policy.

"Network management is today's critical question for industrial data communications," said Mike Huarca, product manager. "To paraphrase Carl Henning, 'you'll either you use a managed device or wish you had'. If you can tolerate the downtime while you look for blinking lights, an unmanaged device could be right for you."

For everybody else, Patton's universal management solution includes SNMP monitoring, Telnet, and HTTP/WEB management plus troubleshooting via remote-loopback.

Patton's FlexKey(TM) touchpad with backlit LCD eliminates the expense of high-level IT resources and equipment at installation sites because the Model 3231 is easily configured with no tools or computer required.

"Ethernet is rapidly expanding in control engineering applications," Mr. Huarca observes. "Patton's Model 3231 offers a standards-compliant solution for challenging environments."

Control Engineering (2/1/2009) recently affirmed IEEE 802.3 Ethernet as a growing force in industrial implementations.

Ideal for transporting Ethernet data from ISA, SCADA and telemetry applications, the 3231 extends industrial network segments up to 9.4 kilometers (5.84 miles) at 192 kbps.

For high speed applications the modem transmits data at 4.6 Mbps over distances up to 3.3 kilometers (2.05 miles).

With 10/100 Ethernet and G.SHDSL interfaces, the ROHS-compliant Model 3231 provides a bridged Ethernet connection via PPPoHDSL, PPPoA, RFC 1483, and STP 802.1D with intrusion detection, and Access Control List (ACL).

The modem is compliant with the international IEEE G.991.2 standard and implements the G.994.1 G.hs handshake protocol.

Offering desktop, rack-mount and wall-mount options, the Model 3231 is enclosed in a ruggedized metal case and designed to withstand extended temperatures ( 0 degrees to 60 degrees C and -20 degrees to 70 degrees C options), vibration (JIS E 3014), shock (JIS E 3015), and humidity (IEC 60068-2-56 Cb).

ROHS compliant since 2006, Patton is a green manufacturer.
