New ComNet Managed Ethernet Switch Provides High-Density Modular Ethernet Solution

ComNet Introduces ValueLine 24-Port Managed Ethernet Switch

Danbury, CT. - ComNet, Communication Networks of Danbury, Connecticut, a leading manufacturer of fiber optic transmission and networking equipment, has expanded its ValueLine by introducing a cost-effective 24-port modular Gigabit Ethernet switch for commercial security applications. The CWGE24MODMS is the company's first modular managed Ethernet switch that provides a high port count with great flexibility in communications media type and connector choice. The all-new CWGE24MODMS is essentially a user-configurable chassis that allows for three 8-port modules to be accommodated. The modules are available as either eight electrical ports, eight fixed SC optic ports, eight user-selectable SFP ports, or a combination of electrical and SFP optical ports. All 24 ports support Gigabit Ethernet transmission.

This cost-effective solution is designed to operate in environments typical for commercial security. According to Andrew Acquarulo Jr., ComNet President and COO, "There was a definite need in the market for a feature-rich, user-configurable, high-density managed Ethernet switch for use in areas where there were multiple network devices and network traffic needed management."

"The CWGE24MODMS offers a high degree of flexibility and many very significant features. The CWGE24MODMS is feature-rich offering benefits such as IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol) snooping, Spanning Tree (STP) and Rapid Spanning Tree (RSTP), Port-Based VLAN Tagging, Quality of Service (QoS) and MAC Address Filtering," said Acquarulo.

"A major exclusive feature of the CWGE24MODMS is X-Ring. X-Ring technology provides a faster redundant recovery than Spanning Tree topology. The action is similar to STP or RSTP. X-Ring provides a redundant network path in the case of a failure on the network. But we truly believe the appeal for this switch lies with the many options users enjoy when configuring this product. There are many port configuration options available, and this switch will satisfy virtually any application. ComNet is very cognizant as to the cost pressures today's system integrator faces. That is why the CWGE24MODMS is aggressively priced and part of ComNet's ValueLine," Acquarulo concluded.

"With the introduction of the ValueLine CWGE24MODMS we are adding to a very complete solution that achieves our goal of giving our customers more choices when designing the transmission portion of their application," said Frank (Skip) Haight, ComNet VP of Marketing. "From the beginning ComNet has been known for providing some of the most durable products for use in the toughest environments imaginable. But there are applications where that durability in extreme environments might be excessive. The ComNet ValueLine is a great cost-effective alternative," Haight continued.

ComNet offers an extensive line of fiber optic video and data transmission equipment as well as a line of Ethernet Network equipment that is uniquely toughened to meet the needs of the Security and Intelligent Transportation System market.
