Magnetic Conveyor Separates and Handles both Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Chips

Mayfran International Magna-ToteŽ conveyor incorporates a unique magnetic design & scraper conveyor concept to efficiently convey both types of material

Mayfran International (Cleveland, OH), a leading manufacturer of chip, coolant and scrap handling equipment manufactures the Magna-ToteŽ Conveyor designed for handling ferrous and non-ferrous chips at individual machine tools. The Magna-Tote system incorporates a unique combination of design elements, including a stationary magnetic force, and a conveyor with both a scraper-type function and standard bed-style conveyance to efficiently separate ferrous chip materials from coolants, and to convey both ferrous chips and small non-ferrous particles.

The Magna-Tote system, unlike conventional magnetic conveyors with magnets that travel with and below the conveyor belt, features a high intensity, permanent magnetic bed plate located in the base of the unit...at the dirty coolant point of entry from the machine tool. As coolant flows over the plate, ferrous materials are captured and held, while clean coolant exits through a manifold arrangement that assures maximum coolant exposure to the magnet. The conveyor belt travels past the magnetic bed plate where stainless steel scrapers with notched urethane wipers clean the chips from the plate onto the conveyor belt, which then elevates and discharges the chips to waste bins.

Since the Magna-Tote conveyor does not rely on traveling magnetic fields to capture and convey chips on the belting material, the system is also capable of providing positive conveyance of non-ferrous materials.

In either application of ferrous or non-ferrous chip handling, the Magna-Tote maximizes coolant recovery, at both the bottom manifold discharge and through a slow elevating action that allows residual coolant to drain from chips and course downward to the coolant collection pan. This dual recovery method not only returns more coolant to the machine, but also provides dryer chips and possible higher scrap values.

The Magna-Tote features Mayfran's proven, rugged and reliable roller chain configuration and drive unit that minimizes maintenance requirements, as well as a wear resistant stainless steel bed along with the stainless steel scrapers. It can be furnished in a wide range of flow rates and sizes for a variety of application needs, and in configurations to match with virtually all machine tool designs.

In addition to the Magna-Tote Conveyor system, Mayfran produces a wide variety of other chip and coolant handling systems for machine tools and machining operations.
