Model C 20 U machining center features modified gantry design with 3 linear axes in tool and 2 rotary axes in trunnion. Constructed on 1-piece poured mineral casting base, travels in X, Y and Z axes are 600, 450, and 450 mm, respectively, with traverse rate of 45 m/min with A and C axes at 25 rpm. With +114° swivel range and maximum table load of 300 kg, NC rotary table accommodates pallets of 320 x 320 mm at 400 mm dia or 400 x 400 x 500 mm dia.

Hermle Displays New Series C 20 U - 5-Axis Precision for Small to Mid-Size Complex Parts at Westec
Franklin, WI (For Immediate Release) - Hermle Machine Company's exhibit at the Machinery Sales Booth #3316 at Westec 2007 will include one of the newest members of the C Series family, the C 20 U. The C 20 U is designed for the production of complex 5-axis parts. Hermle's C Series machines have been extremely popular among a wide spectrum of manufacturers with high emphasis in the aviation and aerospace markets.
The C 20 U answers the need for a machining center dedicated to small- to medium-size applications. The modified gantry design provides for 3 linear axes in the tool and 2 rotary axes in the trunnion. The machine is constructed on a one-piece poured mineral casting base which offers excellent vibration dampening properties and low thermal conductivity. Axis travels in X, Y and Z axes are 600, 450 and 450mm, respectively. The linear axes have an exceptionally fast rapid traverse rate of 45m/min with A and C axes at 25 rpms.
The standard spindle speed is 10,000 rpm (16,000, 28,000 or 40,000 optional), with SK40 interface (HSK A63, HSK E40 optional). Standard tool magazine holds 30 tools and is expandable, through additional magazines of 43 or 87 additional pockets (73 or 117 tools total). Chip-to-chip time is 4.5 sec. The NC swiveling rotary table can accommodate pallets of 320 x 320mm at 400mm diameter or 400 x 400mm at 500mm diameter. Swivel range is +115 deg., and the maximum table load is 300kg.
The C Series family places an increased emphasis on higher production, and the C 20 U is no exception. Hermle's unique pallet changer system permits both fully automated operation and manual operator access, and handles pallets of up to 160kg in weight. Standard 3-pallet capacity can be increased to 7, and the pallet system is equipped with Hermle's patented precision location system.
Alternatives for automated operation include customized pallet systems and a retractable roof-top section for crane loading.
