Hermle Introduces New B 300 "Entry Level" Machining Center
Franklin, WI - In response to increased demand for high precision/high value parts, Hermle has announced the introduction of the B 300 machining center. Incorporating select elements of Hermle's extremely successful C Series machining centers, the B 300 utilizes patented gantry design for fast, precise movement, a trunion table mounted on precision bearings for optimum performance in multi-axis work, and a mineral casting base offering low thermal conductivity and superior vibration dampening properties. X, Y and Z axes are 800-600-500 mm, respectively. Rapid traverse is 30m/min in all axes. The main drive, capable of up to 19 kW, powers a 15,000 rpm spindle. The 30-position tool magazine accommodates both SK 40 and HSK A 63 tooling. Tool change is accomplished by direct pick-up, and chip-to-chip time is approximately 6 seconds.
The B 300 is available in both 3- and 5-axis configurations. The 3-axis version features a rigid clamping table measuring 1000 x 560 mm with a load capacity 1500 kg. The 5-axis version utilizes an NC controlled swiveling rotary table, 280 mm in diameter with the maximum load of 250 kg. A variety of clamping plates are available as options. Both designs provide ergonomic accessibility with a generous work area. Additional collision protection is provided by control based collision monitoring, as well as six energy absorbing displacement sleeves located within the spindle.
The machine features a pendant mounted Heidenhain iTNC 530 with standard integrated safety technology.
Options include a chip scraper belt conveyor, chip cart, electrical hand-held control module, electrical thermal compensation, touch probe, air purge for glass scales, tool measurement and tool breakage monitoring systems, and others.
In announcing the introduction, Kenneth Merk, Executive VP-Sales & Service, stated, "We believe this is the right machine at the right time. The B 300 is targeted to the many shops that have expressed interest in Hermle machines for their high precision, hard machining capability, and long experience in 5-axis machining applications. In terms of its size, the B 300 is close to Hermle's C 800 design which was one of our most popular machines prior to the advent of the new C Series. By standardizing many of our latest design features in a modular package, our engineers have developed the B 300 as a basic model that offers Hermle quality at an extremely attractive introductory price of less than $300,000. It's the perfect 'entry level' machine for a first-time Hermle owner and, from the interest that we've seen so far, it's going to do much to enlarge our customer family. We look forward to exhibiting it at our Open House in Franklin on June 5th and 6th and at South Hall A, Booth 8265 at IMTS 2008."
