Hermle Adds New Large-Scale Machining Center to C Series Family

Franklin, WI (For Immediate Release) -- Hermle Machine Company has announced the all-new C 50 U Dynamic. The C 50 U is Hermle's largest machining center to date, and extends the company's best-selling C series' capabilities to larger, heavier parts.

A "Dynamic" Approach to Large Scale Pieces

With X-, Y-, and Z-axis travels of 1000, 1100, and 700 mm respectively, the C 50 U also carries a generous maximum workpiece weight of 2,000 kg dynamically.

Production potential is optimized by a rapid traverse linear rate of 60 m/min in the X- and Y- axes and 55 m/min in the Z-axis. The Y-axis provides tandem drive for higher machine dynamics.

The C 50 U is available with an NC swiveling rotary table - featuring a clamping surface of up to Ø700 mm - or an optional NC swiveling rotary table with a clamping surface of Ø1150 mm x 900 mm. Both tables utilize an integrated torque motor (C axis) and a tandem drive motor (A axis). The RPM's of both tables is A- axis at 20 RPM's and the C-axis at 30 RPM's. The A and C axes also increase flexibility by offering a swivel range extending +30º/-115º.

The C 50 U dynamic is ideal for the full simultaneous 5-axis and/or 5-sided machining of large sized automotive, aircraft parts or molds requiring high precision operation. The maximum part dimension is a diameter of 1,000 mm and height of up to 810 mm, with precision in the single-digit µ range.

Beyond the Brawn

Supporting the superior size and strength of the C50 U are a range of
further capabilities, including:
o Crane loading with door opening up to 1250 mm
o Space-saving pick-up magazine integrated into the base unit
o Three guideways (modified gantry design) with a single guideshoe for ideal force balance
o Work platforms along the entire machine front and at magazine load station
o Ergonomic design for optimum accessibility

The Largest and the Latest from Hermle
The C 50 U Dynamic marks a brand new development in the machining of large parts for a variety of applications - allowing large-scale manufacturers to maintain their competitive edge. According to Kenneth Merk, Executive VP-Sales & Service, "The addition of the C 50 U to the C Series family of machines increases the range of size for our customers with large part demands. We expect to see significant growth in the market for larger, high-value parts, and the C 50 U can meet that need with an automation-ready solution offering the quality and precision that Hermle is known for."
