Machine Vision Solution aids solar cell production.

Press Release Summary:

Customized to end-user requirements, VC Solar Positioner is used to precisely position solar wafers during production. Design facilitates integration within existing production lines; VC Smart Cameras actuate robot directly and eliminate need for PC. Even with a low camera resolution (1026 x 768), measurement accuracies are under 2 µm. Machine vision solution utilizes standardized components, and modules can be applied during different procedures under production process.

Original Press Release:

New Machine Vision Solution for Solar Cell Production: VC Solar Positioner

During the production process solar wafers always have to be positioned exactly due to the divers process procedures - e. g. for charging the conveyor belt or for the final imprinting. Robots are used for the positioning since the sensitive blank wafers don't tolerate any agitation or instable handling. To position them exactly is enormously important, because this minimizes the rejects. Thus, no µm² active surface of the wafer is wasted, e. g. under the laser edge isolation.

The VC Solar Positioner is customized to meet our customer's needs and provides the user therefore with the ideal solution for all inspection tasks in the solar cell production. All components are standardized and hence offer a cost-efficient machine vision solution, which allows the highest possible flexibility to integrate the system into existing production lines. The use of the VC Smart Cameras is especially suited to these tasks. The VC Smart Cameras actuate the robot directly e. g. via an Ethernet connection and redundantize the PC.

Furthermore, the VC Solar Solution modules can be applied during different procedures under the production process, e. g. for the edge or surface inspection as well as for the quality control in general.

VC Solar Positioner at a glance:
- practically tested and customized turnkey solution:
Smart Camera with Software Module
- full-fledged robot guidance solution
- measurement accuracies clearly under 2 µm, even with a low camera resolution (1026 x 768 Pixel)
- automatic lens correction enabling the use of costefficient standard objectives, an expensive telecentric objective thus is not required
- guaranteed detection under difficult environmental circumstances, even if the wafer's edge is covered up to 2/3, e.g. by the permanently moving robot
- process time under 1,0 sec is warranted
- PC is unnecessary, thanks to the use of Smart Cameras
