MPPA Device provides 1.20 TeraOPS of processing power.
January 7, 2008 -
Intended for high-end applications that require multiple TeraOPS of processing such as image, signal, and video processing, wireless radio, and network security, Model Am2045B(TM) can run up to 350 MHz. Users can create reusable software objects and route them across MPPA. TeraOPS-class massively parallel processor array (MPPA) device features 336 32-bit processors, uses SOPM tools, and maintains software compatibility with full Am2000 family.

Ambric Now Delivering the Am2045B, a New, Higher Performance, Lower Power Version of its Industry-Leading TeraOPS-Class MPPA Device
Customers Have Validated the Ambric Architecture Across A Broader Range of Applications
Beaverton, Ore., - November 15, 2007 - Ambric®, Inc., the fabless semiconductor company that delivered the world's first teraOPS-class processor, announced that it is now delivering the Am2045B(TM). The new device offers higher performance and lower power than its predecessor, the Am2045A(TM). The Am2045B is the newest in the Ambric Am2000(TM) family of highly scalable, massively parallel processor arrays (MPPAs) using Ambric's award-winning* structured object programming model (SOPM) tools to make massively parallel software development practical for complex embedded systems. Ambric is a privately-held company headquartered in Beaverton, Ore., with funding from ComVentures, OVP Venture Partners, and Northwest Technology Ventures.
New Am2045B Delivers Major Additional Benefits to Customers
Higher performance is one of the key new benefits available to customers. This is achieved through improved connectivity, faster execution, and increased on-chip memory, while maintaining compatibility with the Am2045A device. The on-chip interconnect bandwidth is dramatically improved by more than 40 percent and channel connectivity available for chip-to-chip communication is improved by 8X. This enables customers to build high-end applications that require multiple teraOPS of processing across multiple Am2045B devices. The device now runs up to 350 Mhz and provides an industry-leading 1.20 TeraOPS of processing power. This increased speed is what is needed for high-end applications and underlies the better price-performance of the Am2045B.
Improved ease of programming, another key benefit, is provided by a 60 percent increase in on-chip memory and improved connectivity. Together they make it easier to create reusable software objects and route them across the MPPA. The Am2045B uses Ambric's SOPM tools and maintains software compatibility with the full Am2000 family.
Reduced power is yet another key benefit for customers. The new device has reduced power consumption by 40 percent. Power usage is down to between 6 and 12 watts depending on the processing needs of the application. This allows the device to meet the power requirements of a much wider class of applications, including portable systems.
"Customers have validated the Am2000 family architecture as evidenced by the strong demand and the development of advanced algorithms," said Ashesh Doshi, senior product marketing manager, Ambric. "And when some customers asked for changes to be made in the product, we could respond very quickly because of the highly scalable 'bric' nature of the Ambric architecture."
The new Ambric device can accommodate applications that are in the mid-range with tight power budgets all the way to high-end, computationally intensive requirements in markets such as image, signal, and video processing, wireless radio, and network security. Customers can now adopt the Am2000 family across their full product line giving them a scalable, high performance software programmable solution.
