April 21, 2005 - SURFCAM Velocity utilizes TrueMill technology to control tool engagement with material. Software uses aggressive machining parameters to increase material removal rates for reduced cycle times. It generates smooth, fluid tool paths, free from spikes or sudden changes in tool load, that leverage motion-control capabilities of CNC machine tools and that also minimize stress on cutting tool and machine.

Surfware to Unveil TrueMill Technology at WESTEC 2005

Revolutionary new technology dynamically manages tool engagement for significantly faster material removal rates

Westlake Village, CA - March 30, 2005 - Surfware Inc., developer of SURFCAM CAD/CAM Systems, will unveil TrueMill*, its new patent-pending tool path technology, at WESTEC 2005. This revolutionary tool path engine precisely controls a tool's engagement with the material, enabling the use of much more aggressive machining parameters, which in turn results in significantly reduced cycle times.

"This is a completely new method of machining, said Glenn Coleman, vice president of product design at Surfware. "TrueMill provides a completely new tool path strategy that generates smooth, fluid tool paths, which leverage the superior motion-control capabilities of CNC machine tools. Material removal is not only much faster, but also more efficient, with less stress on the cutting tool and the machine."

The toolpaths produced by TrueMill are completely free from spikes or sudden changes in tool load. Thus, machining parameters such as spindle speed, feed rate, depth-of-cut, and stepover can be used in combinations that would result in material damage or tool breakage if used with existing tool path generators.

"One of the most important aspects of TrueMill is its complete independence from the machining hardware, including the cutting tools, tool holders, the controller, and the machine tool," continued Coleman. "All things being equal, TrueMill tool paths can be driven faster and deeper than other tool paths, resulting in dramatically reduced cycle times, while extending cutting tool life."

TrueMill is only available in SURFCAM Velocity, which will be released in Summer 2005. It can be experienced live at WESTEC, booth #3358. The show will run April 4-7, 2005 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California. For more information visit www.sme.org/westec
